4:44 a.m.: disturbance, Margerie Street, a State Police dispatcher reports a caller said she had been awakened by her boyfriend strangling her, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had argued with her boyfriend before she went to sleep and she woke when he started yelling at her, the woman said that the man then grabbed her neck and choked her before fleeing the residence, the officer noted red marks and bruises on her neck consistent with her account, a search of the area utilizing the department’s K-9 team revealed the man to be hiding in a closet in an old camper trailer on the property, Justin A. Hebert, 34, of 20 Margerie St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
6:30 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he encountered a vehicle operated by an unlicensed driver, a criminal complaint was filed and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
10:08 a.m.: larceny, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Avenue, a school resource officer reports he was advised of the theft of a smartphone, the SRO reports a pupil said that her phone was found to be missing from her bag, the victim did not know when it disappeared or who might have taken it;
10:50 a.m.: fire, Little River Road, a caller reports a fire in a field does not appear to be attended, the responding firefighters reports the fire was attended within the allowed parameters;
10:55 a.m.: fire Main Street, an ambulance crew reports heavy black smoke in a backyard, the responding fire captain reports the resident was advised of the complaint and extinguished the fire;
11:11 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a vehicle operating with expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
12:40 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, the manager of an Elm Street bar came to the station to report that a customer absconded without paying his tab, the responding officer reports a man provided his credit card and ran a tab while drinking with his friends for much of the evening, the manager said when the man left without settling his $78 account the staff attempted to charge his card but it was declined, an Internet search identified the man’s social media account and a message was sent to him, the manager asked that a ‘No trespassing’ order be issued and said that he will pursue criminal charges if the suspect does not pay his bill in the next two weeks;
1:12 p.m.: larceny, Paper Mil Road, a caller reports a larceny, the assigned detective reports the case remain under investigation;
1:41 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Kittredge Drive, a caller reports a ‘junkyard’ in the neighborhood, the responding officer reports he discovered an old heating fuel tank had been unearthed and was in use for fuel storage, junk vehicles, an illegal temporary shed and automotive parts on the property, the building inspector and fire inspectors were advised and responded;
1:51 p.m.: violation of a protective order, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a resident came to the station to complain that her former boyfriend violated the ‘No contact’ clause of a protective order by calling her to speak about something other than the daughter they have in common;
2:07 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without a valid inspection sticker and stopped the vehicle, a routine check revealed that the owner’s license had been revoked as a habitual traffic offender in Massachusetts, a Florida license had been suspended and that the man was the subject of a fugitive from justice warrant for violation of probation imposed for burglary charges in Florida, Aaron P. Benoit, 26, of 14 Kelso Ave., West Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender, operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker and on the warrant;
5:04 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop due to an inspection sticker violation, a routine check revealed that the owner’s license had been revoked as a habitual traffic offender, William Guzman-Sanchez, 25, of 82 Clemente St., Holyoke, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender and operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker;
6:51 p.m.: assist citizen, South Maple Street, a caller reports locking her keys inside the running vehicle, the responding deputy fire chief reports entry was made.
