1:22 a.m.: accident, Russell Road at Bates Road, a caller reports a rollover accident, the responding officer reports he found the vehicle flipped over in the westbound lane, the operator said that he had been alone in the vehicle and declined medical assistance, the officer reports he observed the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication and the man failed a field sobriety test, Christopher D. Reed, 47, of 360 Dickinson Hill Road, Russell, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation;
8:32 a.m.: assist citizen, Montgomery Road, a caller requests an officer because her son is refusing to go to school, the responding officer reports he was able to calm the boy and followed as his mother drove him to school;
8:41 a.m.: illegal dumping, Southwick Road, a caller reports that non-residents are dumping trash in the apartment complex’s rubbish receptacle, the responding officer reports that the owner of the involved vehicle was contacted and advised to remove the trash, the officer reports that the trash was eventually removed;
9:43 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports that the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
10:41 a.m.: larceny, King Street, a residence came to the station to complain that the registration plates for his girlfriend’s vehicle were stolen, the responding officer reports that the man said that he had removed the plates after the vehicle was declared to be a total loss due to an accident and had not realized that they had been stolen from his porch until police returned one which had been recovered in Springfield;
11:08 a.m.: fraud, Meadow Street, a resident came to the station to report that family members have fraudulently gained access to an account formerly owned by his deceased father and his son;
1:59 p.m.: identity fraud, Prospect Street extension, a resident came to the station to complain that a store credit card was fraudulently opened in her name, the responding officer reports that the woman said she became aware of the fraud when she received abill for the account, the complainant said that none of the charges had been made in the local area;
2:26 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports that he vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
3:49 p.m.: assist other agency, Charles Street, the code enforcement officer reports a health inspector requested assistnce with the investigation of a complaint of overcrowding at a residence, the officer reports the at the overcrowding is temporary as persons displaced by a West Springfield fire are being accommodated until they complete a move out-of-state, the officer requested an animal control officer to also respond, the ACO reports that a cat needs to be vaccinated and 22 quail must be removed within five days;
5:04 p.m.: larceny, Airport Road, a representative of an aircraft related company reports via the online reporting option that the instrument cluster was stolen from an aircraft in the company’s custody;
5:58 p.m.: fire, Westfield River at the Great River Bridge south bound span, a caller reports a tree on the bank of the river is smoldering, the responding firefighters report that a log which was washed up on an island where a bridge support pier is located was smoldering but was out of reach of the department’s hoses, the log was allowed to burn itself out;
6:02 p.m.: larceny, Sherman Street extension, a resident came to the station to report a larceny, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a package which was delivered to her doorstep has been stolen;
6:53 p.m.: vandalism, Main Street, a caller reports her vehicle was struck by what appear to be BBs while she was sitting in it in a Main Street parking lot, the responding officer reports a second vehicle was also struck by BBs, the officer reports a suspect was identified and a criminal complaint was filed;
8:22 p.m.: vandalism, Colonial Pine Acres, a community policing officer reports a window of one of the apartments was broken, apparently by a rock;
9:40 p.m.: animal complaint, Orange Street, a caller reports a stray dog, the responding animal control officer reports a gelded male Shih Tzu dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter.
