Emergency Response and Crime Report

1:13 a.m.: found property, Westfield Middle School South, 30 W. Silver St., a patrol officer reports he discovered a red bicycle which appeared to have been abandoned on the school’s playing field, the bike was transported to the station for safe keeping;
7:43 a.m.: fire, Main Street, a caller from the deli department of a Main Street supermarket reports a fire, the responding officer reports a malfunctioning compressor was creating smoke so the power to the compressor was interrupted;
8:16 a.m.: assist other department, Ponders Hollow Road, a DPW worker requests assistance with a city vehicle which is locked with the keys inside, the responding deputy fire chief reports entry was made;
10:09 a.m.: fire, School Street, a caller reports smoke in the basement, the responding firefighters report the smoke was cleared and no fire was found;
10:21 a.m.: assist citizen, Shepard Street, the animal control officer reports she assisted a resident to remove a bat from the home;
12:05 p.m.: vandalism, Franklin Street, a caller reports a vehicle was vandalized, the responding officer reports the complainant said that paint was poured on his van and intentionally smeared across the surfaces of the vehicle;
12:09 p.m.: fraud, Bennett Road, a resident came to the station to complain that he was defrauded in an Internet transaction, the responding officer reports that the victim explained that he had been attempting to purchase a vehicle from a Michigan party who accepted his money and then demanded more to complete the transaction, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the detective bureau;
12:57 p.m.: larceny, Shepard Street, a caller reports her city-issued trash receptacle was stolen, the woman was referred to the DPW;
1:24 p.m.: larceny, East Mountain Road, a resident came to the station to complain that his lawn mower was stolen, the responding officer reports the complainant said that his lawn mower had been chained down in his breezeway until it was stolen;
4:26 p.m.: annoying phone calls, Wild Flower Circle, a resident came to the station to complain that she has been receiving annoying text messages from a former co-worker, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had a friendly relationship with a co-worker and maintained a casual friendship with the man via email, text messages and tweets after they ceased to work together, the woman said that the man’s messages began to turn bizarre and after she began to back away from the relationship the man’s messages became more aggressive and threatening, the officer reports that a criminal complaint for stalking was filed against the suspect;
6:24 p.m.: assist citizen, Southampton Road, a fire captain at the Southampton Road fire substation reports a motorist walked to the substation to request assistance after locking keys in a vehicle at a gas station across the street, the captain reports that entry was made;
9:11 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a woman he had dealt with earlier in the day and found to have an expired license, the officer had advised the woman at that time not to operate a motor vehicle and he stopped her vehicle when he saw her again, Jenny E. Colon, 46, of 40 Franklin St., was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle;
11:26 p.m.: officer wanted, Orange Street, a caller requests assistance serving a ‘No trespassing’ order to an unwanted guest, the responding officer reports a routine check revealed the guest to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Tyler D. Julius, 18, of 8 Scott Ave., Chicopee, was arrested on the warrant;
11:59 p.m.: fire, Tannery Road at Southwick Road, multiple callers report a transformer on a utility pole is on fire, the responding firefighters request the G&E respond, the fire went out when the G&E workers disconnected the electricity to the pole, the G&E crew remained at the scene with a detail officer to deal with the problem.
