2:05 a.m.; disturbance, Union St., a caller reports rocks are being thrown at vehicles by persons near the salt piles, the responding officer reports a motorist said that he stopped his vehicle when it was stuck by an object on Union Street and he and his passengers located three suspects who fled but were detained, the officer reports that one of the suspects said that a fourth party who had evaded the victim had been shooting at utility poles with a BB gun, the gun was not found atop the salt piles and the officer reports a search will be made in daylight, the suspects were interviewed further and one identified the fourth man correctly and an officer spoke to that suspect who agreed to come to the station for an interview where he said that he had been shooting at utility poles but struck a vehicle, Tennison S. Clarke, 27, of 255 College St., Springfield, Gabriel Perez, 26, of 150 W. Alvord St., Springfield, and Damian Santiago, 21, of 17 Sorrento St., Springfield, were each arrested for vandalizing property and of obstruction of justice, the fourth party who had been truthful and had not tried to obstruct the investigation was not charged;
8:58 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Little River Road, a patrol officer reports he observed numerous tag sale advertisements affixed to utility poles, the officer reports he removed the signs and delivered them to the tag sale operators who were advised of the pertinent city ordinances;
9:35 a.m.: larceny, Mechanic Street, a caller reports his son’s BMX bicycle was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that the bike was last seen parked outside the residence about 8:30 p.m. and was found to be missing about 9:30 a.m.;
11:07 a.m.: suspicious property, Otis St., a resident came to the station to report that he found what appears to be blood on his van and observed a human hand on the ground next to the vehicle, the responding officer reports the item was a rubber glove filled with what appears to be ketchup;
1:51 p.m. assist citizen, East Main Street, a caller reports begin locked out of a vehicle, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
2:16 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:34 p.m.: breaking and entering, Washington St., a caller reports her purse was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that she had been startled by loud knocking as she exited her shower and looked out to see a known party, the woman said that the man left before she dressed and answered the door and she subsequently found that her pocketbook which she customarily leaves on the banister of her stairs was missing, the woman said that she habitually leaves her door unlocked, the officer spoke with the man the woman had seen who denied taking the purse and identified a second suspect, the second man also denied taking the purse but accused the first suspect who thereupon retrieved the hidden purse and surrendered it to the officer, the victim identified both men and advised the officer that items found in the purse had been last seen in her car, while in custody the second suspect asked that police retrieve his property from the location where he had been when he was arrested and the officer did so, the officer found that some of the items retrieved had been in the victim’s purse, Dana P. Osowski, 30, of 7 Free St., and Steven J. Nikiel, 36, of 8 Conner Ave., were each arrested for breaking and entering a building in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, for breaking and entering a vehicle in the daytime with intent to commit a felony and for larceny of property valued less than $250;
7:29 p.m.: fire, Montgomery Street, a caller reports that smoke from a neighbor’s fire is entering her apartment, the responding officer reports the resident had a small gathering and a fire, the fire was extinguished without incident, see next entry;
8:05 p.m.: fire, Montgomery Street, a caller reports that residents who extinguished a fire when police were called have rekindled the fire, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the residents were using wood to grill food, the responding firefighters report the residents were advised of the pertinent regulations and extinguished the fire;
10:20 city ordinance violation, Chapman Playground, a patrol officer reports he observed two youths at the playground who were obviously younger than the legal drinking age, the officer reports he observed one of the youths throw a bottle into the tall grass and when he was required to retrieve the bottle it was found to be partially full of liquor, a cup partially filled with liquor was seen near the youths but both denied ownership of it, one of the boys had a backpack which the officer examined for additional liquor and found a container with the stubs of four marijuana cigarettes, that boy has a history with police and a criminal complaint was filed in addition to a city ordinance violation citation for possession of marijuana, the other boy was served a city ordinance violation citation for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor;
10:44 p.m.: suspicious lights, South Maple Street, multiple callers report lights in the sky in a triangular fashion do not appear to be the lights for aircraft, the responding officer reports he reviewed cell phone video of the lights which did not appear to be aircraft lights, the officer reports that none of the witnesses appeared to be intoxicated or otherwise impaired, the officer advised that the incident should be referred to the FAA.
