Monday, Aug. 26, 2013
12:49 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, City View Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports that the registration plates on the vehicle had been issued to another vehicle and that registration has been revoked, a criminal complaint for illegally attaching plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating an uninsured motor vehicle was filed and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:58 a.m.: disturbance, Arnold Street, a caller reports her son was assaulted, the responding officer reports a male party said he went outside an Arnold Street bar to smoke a cigarette and a male party he does not know asked for a cigarette, the man said that when he declined the favor the man assaulted him but he does not wish to pursue criminal charges;
6:16 a.m.: vandalism, New Broadway, a caller reports her vehicle was egged overnight, the caller said that no damage was done and she washed the eggs from her vehicle, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;
9:40 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller reports the taillights were stolen from a vehicle on the lot, the responding officer reports the caller said that both taillight assemblies with a total value of $246 dollars were stolen from a vehicle on the front line of display cars overnight;
10:08 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports a person surrendered a dog of mixed but predominately Corgi ancestry;
11:32 a.m.: illegal dumping, a supervisory officer reports he investigated and substantiated reports that a resident who owns a commercial disposal company is dumping debris from his business on the basis of a residential dump sticker, the suspect’s dumping privileges were revoked;
12:29 p.m.: found property, Fowler Road, a caller reports that while walking she discovered the remains of a firearm, see story in the Tuesday edition of The Westfield News;
2:54 p.m.: found property, North Elm Street, a supervisory officer reports a checkbook which may be related to a previous case was found in a North Elm Street parking lot, the checkbook was logged as evidence and stored;
2:56 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, West Silver Street, a traffic enforcement officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked for lack of insurance, the pickup truck was towed to the police impound yard;
4:00 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports a person surrendered a long haired female Chihuahua dog reportedly found on Springdale Road which may have been struck by a vehicle;
4:40 p.m.: assist citizen, Southampton Road, a caller from an automotive repair facility requests an officer to keep the peace as a former employee makes restitution for a prior larceny, the responding officer reports the former employee brought stolen items back to the company and arranged to bring a restitution check to the company on Monday without incident;
5:08 p.m.: violation of a protective order, Kellogg Street, a resident came to the station to complain that her former husband left a voicemail message on her phone which violated an existing protective order, the officer reports he listened to the message the man had left and applied for a warrant;
5:30 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, School Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;

10:06 a.m.: larceny, Franklin Street, a caller from an assisted living facility reports controlled medication is missing, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a daily inventory of the residents’ medications revealed a discrepancy on Aug. 7, the complainant identified two possible suspects, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
11:19 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, an employee of a Springfield Road department store reports a shoplifter has been detained, the responding officer reports that the employee said that two women had been seen concealing merchandise in a beach bag and were accosted after they passed the paypoints without paying for the merchandise, the employee said that one of the women fled and merchandise was recovered from the other, the officer reports a search of the area revealed the second woman sitting behind a merchandise rack, the employee reports that the women had previously been served ‘No trespassing’ orders for all the chain’s store, Cheryl Jones Shaw, 56, of 868 Southampton Road, was arrested for shoplifting merchandise valued more than $100 by asportation and for trespass, Elizabeth M. Shaw, 30, of 868 Southampton Road, was arrested for shoplifting by asportation;
11:46 a.m.: breaking and entering, Broad Street, a caller reports her cellophane was stolen but is still in the building, the responding officer reports that the victim said that she inadvertently left a window slightly open when she parked and locked her car at her workplace and entry was made to steal her smartphone, the woman told the officer that a tracking feature of the phone shows that it is in the building but an announcement on the public address system did not elicit a response and it cannot be found;
3:23 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Princeton Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
3:31 p.m.: larceny, Shepard Street, a resident came to the station to report the theft of two chainsaws, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that some time between Aug. 17-24 his unlocked garage was entered and two chainsaws were stolen;
5:41 p.m.: vandalism, Elizabeth Avenue, a resident came to the station to report vandalism to his vehicle, the respond officer reports that on at least two occasions his vehicle was struck with eggs or BBs, the man said he knows of nobody who harbors animosity toward him;
7:39 p.m.: larceny, Southwick Road, a caller reports a known customer stole a charitable collection container from the counter, the responding officer reports the clerk identified the suspect and the officer found him nearby, James S. Guillmette, 31, of 419 Southwick Road, was arrested for larceny from a building;
7:40 p.m.: vandalism, Colonial West Apartments, 115 Main St., a resident reported vandalism to flowers via the online reporting option;
8:36 p.m.: assist citizen, Stanley Park, 400 Western Ave., a Springfield resident called to report that she and her family are locked inside Stanley Park and she has been unable to contact a park ranger, the responding officer reports he was able to unlock a gate to allow the family to exit in their vehicle;
8:51 p.m.: disturbance, Notre Dame Street, a caller reports she was assaulted by her former boyfriend, the responding officer notes that police had responded to the residence earlier in the shift and found that both parties have legitimate claims to residents in the apartment, the female party told the officer that she had been attempting to terminate an argument about where she was going to sleep and was unplugging a lamp when she simultaneously heard glass break and felt a stinging sensation on her neck, the woman said she felt her neck and found she was bleeding and saw the man holding the broken lamp, the woman called police despite his pleas to work out the situation between themselves and when he realized she was actually talking to an officer he left, a criminal complaint was filed.
