4:35 a.m.: Disturbance, Union Street. Police responded to a residence on Union Street after one of the people inside the home reportedly threw a chair at a window, shattering it. According to police reports, the person was allegedly upset because he was called a racist during an argument with another person. The person who reportedly threw the chair then left the scene and police were able to find him a short distance away. No arrest was made and the person promised they would pay to have the window fixed.

8 a.m.: Accident, Union Street. Police received a report of a one-car crash involving a 1999 Mercedes SE E320 and a road sign. Police reported no injuries and no cause for the crash, but a tow was needed.

10:48 a.m.: Larceny, Broad Street. A couple reported that while they were attending church their vehicle was reportedly broken into and a cell phone and a garment were stolen from the vehicle. Police were investigating.

3:13 p.m.: Accident, Springdale Road. Police received a report of a 2004 Mazda SE 3 that crashed into a tree. The operator was initially trapped inside the vehicle with unknown injuries. Prior to the crash, it was reported that the vehicle was operating erratically and driving at high speeds. Westfield Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene, with the Westfield Fire Department getting the driver and lone occupant out of the vehicle, and Westfield Fire paramedics transporting him to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Police later cited the unnamed driver with operating under the influence.

4:01 p.m.: Suspicious acitivity, Sackett Street. Police received a report of a man who may have shot someone accidentally, but that the relatives on scene of the victim would not allow him to “see any medical attention.” Police reported that in addition, someone on scene had reportedly removed the bullet from the victim. The victim, a 17-year-old minor, was shot in the leg once with a small-caliber weapon. Police were able to get inside and the child was transported to Baystate Noble Hospital via Westfield Fire ambulance and paramedics. Police arrested Isac R. Hernandez, 23, of Westfield, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless endangerment of a child possessing a firearm without FID and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
