Emergency response and crime report

10:18 a.m.: larceny, Otis Street, a resident came to the station to report that a known woman has stolen his property, the responding officer reports the man said that he had lived with a couple and had brought his property to their residence but had a falling out with the woman who subsequently claimed he stole from her, the man said that he was incarcerated until the case was resolved in his favor, he said that since his release he has been trying to reclaim his property which the woman said was in the basement, the man said his property was not found when the landlord allowed him access and he believes she still has it, the man said that he has seen some of his items in other parts of the building, the officer reports the investigation is ongoing;
noon: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, an animal control officer reports a resident surrendered a Yorkshire terrier dog mix at the shelter;
4:07 p.m.: larceny, Joseph Avenue, a caller reports a known person stole a leaf blower from his father, the responding officer reports that the man said that his father has allowed a family friend who is known to be a heroin user to stay with him and he got a call from the woman asking if he knew anybody who wanted to buy a leaf blower, the man said that the woman sent him a picture of the blower in question and he recognized it as his father’s leaf blower on his father’s work bench, the woman said that she was going to pawn the item when he told her he did not know of a buyer and he was able to learn what Holyoke pawn shop the blower was sold to, the man said that he went there and the owner advised him that he could buy it for $80 or make a report to police, Holyoke police advised him to report the crime in Westfield where it occurred, city police spoke with the pawn shop owner who agreed to hold the blower until officers can take custody of it;
6:43 p.m.: warrant executed, Grant Street, detectives report that pursuant to an ongoing investigation a warrant was executed and property which had been stolen in Agawam was recovered, in addition 11 bags of heroin and numerous empty heroin packets were found, John W. Cowles, 35, of 6 Grant St., was arrested for breaking and entering a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, larceny of property valued more than $250, possession of a Class A drug and vandalizing property, Julie Marilyn Kvarnstrom, 46, was arrested for being present where heroin is kept, three border collie dogs in the residence were taken into custody by an animal control officer but one bit an officer’s leg causing minor injury for which he was treated at Noble Hospital.
