Emergency Response and Crime Report

7:54 a.m.: fire, Southampton Road at Arch Road, a caller reports trees are on fire, the responding firefighters report 20-30 flames were observed at a propane company yard on Arch Road, the dispatcher reports that company workers had advised fire officials had been notified that workers were burning off vapors from storage tanks and the flames would be visible for 2-3 hours;
8:25 a.m.: accident, West School Street, a school resource officer reports a pupil said that he had been struck by a car while riding his bike to school, the SRO reports the boy said that while riding on West School Street an eastbound car crossed into his lane and struck his knee, the boy said that the car stopped briefly before the operator drove away, the boy was treated by the school nurse and his mother was notified;
11:09 a.m.: officer wanted, Juniper Park School, Western Avenue, a caller reports receiving a phone call which could be interpreted as a threat, see story in the Thursday edition of The Westfield News;
11:33 a.m.: accident, East Mountain Road, a caller reports a rollover accident, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the operator said that she lost control of her vehicle which left the roadway and struck a utility pole causing it to roll completely over and come to rest on its wheels, a witness supported the operator’s account, the operator declined medical assistance, the utility pole was found to be cracked, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:40 p.m.: found property, Westfield Police Department, an officer reports that a driver’s license and debit card found in a police department parking lot were held for safekeeping after he was unable to contact the owner;
3:42 p.m.: assist citizen, Pontoosic Road, a resident came to the station to request assistance recovering his property from an address he is barred from by a protective order, services rendered;
5:31 motor vehicle violation, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a community policing officer reports he observed an occupied vehicle parking in a parking lot at the apartment complex with an operator inside speaking with a female party outside the vehicle, the officer reports that such a situation is typical of narcotics transactions which frequently occur at the apartment complex and also that he recognized the operator as a person who previously had been served with a ‘No trespassing’ order for the complex, the vehicle was stopped when it left eh complex, the CP officer reports he immediately detected an odor of marijuana and saw that there were two small children in the back seat, the woman admitted that she was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and surrendered it, a city ordinance violation citation was issued and the Department of Children and Families was advised of the officer’s observations;
11:43 p.m.: breaking and entering, Meadow Street, a Southampton resident came to the station to report his wallet was stolen, the responding officer reports the man said that he went to a Meadow Street market and encountered an old friend with whom he chatted while he removed cash from his wallet and then entered the store to make a small purchase leaving his vehicle unlocked, the man said that when he emerged his friend was gone and he subsequently found that his wallet was missing.
