Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012
12:09 a.m.: disturbance, Mechanic Street, a patrol officer reports she encountered an overly loud college age party, the officer reports about 75 person were making excessive noise at the party, the tenants were advised of the repercussions of a subsequent complaint, the vast bulk of those present dispersed;
12:51 a.m.: liquor law violation, Orange Street, a community policing officer reports a liquor law violation, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
2:05 a.m.: vandalism, Broad Street, a caller from a care facility reports an employee’s car was vandalized in the parking lot, the responding officer reports the victim said that her car had been intact at 11 p.m. but at 2 a.m. she found that a chair had been thrown on the trunk of the vehicle causing damage;
2:26 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Chapel Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle which failed to yield right of way as required and the vehicle was stopped, the officer noted the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication and the operator failed a field sobriety test, Christopher A. Peluso, 28 Autumn St., Agawam, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and for failure to stop or yield;
3:46 a.m.; disturbance, Flynn Meadows Road, a caller reports a disturbance, the responding officer reports resident said that an intoxicated person refuses to leave, the officer reports the man said that he wanted to go to his home in Worcester, the man was placed in protective custody;
5:18 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a patrol supervisor reports he observed a vehicle at a car dealership without wheels, the responding officer reports he found the vehicle missing all four wheels with a jack still in place along with lug nuts and a tire iron, an extensive search of the area did not reveal any suspects but a pickup truck with two flat tires was found, the missing wheels were valued at about $2,000;
10:09 a.m.: vandalism, Woronoco Avenue, a caller reports Christmas decorations were vandalized overnight, the responding officer reports he found that decorations had been pulled from the lawn at two adjacent addresses but the decorations suffered little actual damage, the officer was not able to speak with one of the residents, no formal report was filed;
11:19 a.m.: breaking and entering, Perkins Street, a landlady came to the station to report a rental apartment was broken into, the responding officer reports the victim said that on Dec. 6 an apartment was locked after the former tenant was evicted and on Dec. 9 she found that it had been entered, a table was stolen and furnishings were damaged, there were no signs of forcible entry;
12:08 p.m.: vandalism, Meadow Street, a caller reports vandalism to his vehicle, the responding officer reports the victim said that he parked his car at a friend’s residence about 5 p.m. the previous day and subsequently found that two tires on the vehicle had been slashed;
2:10 p.m.: counterfeiting, North Elm Street, a gas station clerk called to report that a male party attempted to pass a counterfeit $10 bill, the responding officer reports the caller showed him the bill and the person who offered it said that he had received it in change at a convenience store;
4:43 p.m.: parking violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he enforced fire lane and handicap parking regulations at the parking lot of a Springfield Road department store, four citations were issued and an expired handicap placard was seized;
5:34 p.m.: larceny, Franklin Street, a caller reports cash was stolen from her wallet, the responding officer reports the caller said that while she was at a coin operated laundry on Franklin Street when $100 was stolen from her wallet, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
5:50 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
9:02 p.m.: larceny, Hampton Ponds Plaza, 1029 North Road, a resident came to the station to complain that her purse was stolen from her vehicle, the responding officer reports the woman said that she and another woman left their purses in her vehicle while shopping for Christmas trees at a tree stand in the parking lot and the purses were stolen;
9:17 p.m.: vandalism, Harold Avenue, a resident reports that his Christmas decorations were vandalized twice in the past week, the victim does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;

Monday, Dec. 10, 2013
2:51 a.m.: alarm, Franklin Street, an alarm company reports a window alarm at a Franklin Street liquor store, the responding officer reports a grill which covers the door to the store was bent and the glass door was broken, the security video shows a male party pulling on the gate, the video shows that the intruder went directly to a cooler and then left with a 30 pack of beer;
5:45 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard, the operator was provided a courtesy transport to an East Main Street address;
9:20 a.m.: fraud, Mechanic Street, a resident came to the station to complain that her personal information was fraudulently used to open a utility account, the responding officer reports the woman said that she attempted to open a G&E account but found that an account in her name had a past due balance of almost $300, the officer reports the woman said she was told the account was opened in 2006 at an address where her now deceased father had lived;
10:08 a.m.: breaking and entering, Mechanic Street, a caller reports a lawn mower valued at about $200 was stolen from a common hallway, the responding officer reports the woman said that the exterior door might not have been locked;
10:36 a.m.: vandalism, Broad Street, a caller from a care facility reports a wallet was stolen from the bathroom, the responding officer reports the victim said that she dropped her wallet on the bathroom floor and when she returned for it she found it gone,.
11:00 a.m.: larceny, Union Street, a caller reports scrap metal was stolen from a Union Avenue business, t he responding officer reports that a caller had reported Sunday that a pickup truck which appeared to be full of scrap mental cut off his vehicle while entering Union Street Sunday afternoon, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
11:38 a.m.: identity fraud, a resident came to the station to complain that his debit card was stolen and money was fraudulently withdrawn from his account, the responding officer reports the man said that he was notified of suspicious activity on his account and found his debit card missing, the man said he learned the card had been used at local bars and a gas station for a total of more than $400;
12:30 p.m.: unattended death, Lockhouse Road, a caller report finding a body near railroad track adjacent to Lockhouse Road, see story in the Tuesday edition of The Westfield News;
2:07 p.m.: breaking and entering, North Road, a caller reports he returned home to find that his home had been broken into and property had been stolen, the responding officer reports the man said he came home to find a door unlocked and discovered it had been pried open, the man investigated to find a television, cash and jewelry had been stolen;
2:22 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating with an expired inspection sticker, the vehicle was stopped and the operator’s license was found to be suspended, the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked for lack of insurance, George Yarns III, 24, of 719 Beacon Circle, Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, for operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration and for operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker;
5:05 p.m.: arrest, Southampton Road, a community policing officer reps he sought the subject of four outstanding warrants at her reported address and found her there, Casondra M. Mattern, 28, of 15 Center St., Chicopee, was arrested on the warrants;
9:05 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a Traffic Bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be suspended and non-renewable, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard, the operator was provided a courtesy transport to an Union Street address;
9:42 p.m.: breaking and entering, Southview Terrace, a caller reports his home had been broken into and property had been stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that he had been gone for about an hour and returned home to find a bedroom window open and jewelry had been stolen, the department’s K-9 unit responded and tracked a scent to a house on Apple Orchard Heights which apparently had also been broken into, a relative of the absent resident responded and reports she was not immediately able to determine if anything had been stolen, the dog also followed a scent to a third house where an unsuccessful attempt had apparently been made to break in.
