10:24 a.m.: school investigation, Papermill Road Elementary School, a school resource officer reports the school principal advised him that a third grade boy was found to be in violation of the school’s weapons policy, the SRO reports he was told the nine-year-old boy had shown a small pocket knife to another boy on his school bus, the principal interviewed the boy who denied possessing a weapon but a small folding knife was found in his possession, the boy was suspended from school and his parents were notified;
1:00 p.m.: safety exercise, Abner Gibbs School, 50 W. Silver St., officers conducted a “Code white” drill to practice the planned response to an armed intruder in a city school;
2:45 p.m.: vandalism, Holland Avenue, a caller reports that she heard a front window smash and looked out to see a group of middle school pupils laughing as they walked away, the responding officer reports the caller showed him a smashed stained glass window which she said is probably irreplaceable and described the group of children she had seen, the officer reports he found a group which fit the victim’s description and a 12-year-old boy in the group admitted that he had been “messing around” and had thrown a chunk of asphalt which broke the window, the officer transported the boy to his home but there were no adults present and he left a message for the boy’s parents to contact him;
3:33 p.m.: violation of a protective order, Hillside Road, a resident came to the station to report the violation of a protective order, the responding officer reports the woman said that her estranged husband had violated the ‘No contact’ clause by calling her phone and by leaving messages for her, a criminal complaint was filed;
5:12 p.m.: animal complaint, a community policing officer reports a resident complained of neighbors who she has observed kicking and beating chickens, the woman said she was not want this sort of behavior to be visible to her young children and also said that there is usually an outdoor fire when the birds are attacked and she presumes the chickens are cooked there, the woman said that the property appears to be occupied by refugees with whom there is a language barrier, the woman said the landlord was dismissive of her complaint, the CP officer reports the housing inspector and the director of animal control operations were notified of the situation and asked to investigate;
10:24 p.m.: parking violation, Chapel Street, a community policing officer reports he observed about 20 vehicles with WSU parking decals parked in a private parking lot on Chapel Street, the CP officer reports he will suggest to the owner of the lot that signs be posted limiting parking to patrons of the business, the officer also reports 17 vehicle with WSU stickers were parked on Chapel Street and he will discuss the situation with university officials.
