Emergency response and crime report

9:37 a.m.: disturbance, Phelps Avenue, a caller reports her former boyfriend is trying to break into the basement to retrieve property he left there, the responding officer reports he stood by to keep the peace as the man and his helpers removed the property;
11:08 a.m.: larceny, Hawks Circle, a caller reports that while he was away his home was entered and property was stolen, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
11:33 a.m.: found property, Whitney Playground, Shepard Street, a resident came to the station to surrender a duffle bag found near the river adjacent to the playground, the responding officer reports that the only item of value in the bag was a BB gun, the officer was able to determine the owner but was unable to immediately make contact with him, the property was stored for safekeeping;
12:40 p.m.: vandalism, Floral Avenue, a caller reports her home was struck by BBs which holed the siding of the house, the responding officer reports the caller said that she had seen boys who live at an abutting property shooting BB guns at trees, the officer found another nearby resident who said that his home had also been struck by BBs and said that he saw the boys doing something from their window, the officer spoke with the neighbor and his three sons and reports that the boys said that they didn’t mean to hit the houses;
1:28 p.m.: breaking and entering, Barbara Street, a caller reports that he noticed that an air conditioner in a vacant house he passes regularly has been removed from a window and a protective grate has been pushed in, the responding officer reports he found that baseboard heating elements and copper piping appear to have been stolen, the company which owns the house was contacted and a spokesperson said that a contractor would be sent to secure the house;
1:36 p.m.: well-being check, Old Apremont Way, a caller reports that children are riding bicycles and skateboards on the ice near the Hampton Ponds boat ramp and the caller is concerned for their safety, the responding officer reports he found several youths at the boat ramp and although they were not on the ice they admitted that they had been on the ice earlier, the officer advised them of the dangers of thin ice and reports a parent of one of the children arrived and took her son home, the woman said that she would inform the parents of the other children;
2:12 p.m.: vandalism, Old Quarry Road, a caller reports fireworks damaged his mailbox, the responding officer reports the caller said that a “Lego” house was placed in his mailbox and firecrackers were ignited inside the house while it was in the mailbox resulting in burn marks inside the mailbox, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;
9:18 p.m.: suspicious person, Knollwood Drive, a caller reports that a group of 5-6 teenaged children including one neighborhood boy who was previously charged with stealing from his property went through his yard and on to his porch, the responding officer reports the caller said that the boy and his friends were carrying bats and clubs when they surrounded his home, the caller showed the officer his security video and one boy was seen crossing his yard with a stick while others were seen scattering when security lights were activated, the officer reports he spoke with the primary suspect who acknowledged walking in the area and one of his friends said that he used the caller’s yard as a shortcut to his friend’s yard, the caller was advised of his harassment prevention order options.
