1:04 a.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a caller from an Elm Street bar reports an assault, the responding officer reports he was told that an altercation developed inside the women’s bathroom and when the manager attempted to separate the combatants one punched him, the participants provided conflicting reports of the incident, the manager declined to pursue criminal charges;
2:07 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store requests assistance with two female shoplifters, the responding officer reports the stolen merchandise was recovered and the women from Holyoke and Chicopee were served ‘No trespassing’ orders, the officer also reports that while he was in the store he was given two boxes of ammunition for safe destruction which had been damaged and which the distributor will not accept as returns;
9:46 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Little River Crossing, 93 South Maple Street, a caller reports a sidewalk has not been treated since the last snowfall, the responding officer reports there is only a dusting of snow on the sidewalk which resulted from snow flurries overnight;
11:26 a.m.: assist resident, Russell Road, a caller reports he allowed a friend to borrow his bicycle and the man now refuses to return it, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that when he sent a text message to his friend he got a reply stating that the other man is away and will return the bike at his convenience, the officer reports he was unable to contact the man by phone or in person;
12:51 p.m.: motor vehicle infraction, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Avenue, a school resource officer reports that he was advised that a pupil who has a learner’s permit had driven to school without a licensed driver, the SRO reports that the girl’s parents were advised of her infraction and a relative came to take custody of the vehicle;
2:04 p.m.: breaking and entering, White Street, a caller reports that about 10 minutes earlier a male party attempted to break into her apartment, the caller said that she was alerted when her dog started barking and she saw a man attempting to shoulder his way into her apartment, the woman said that the man fled when she called out to her dog, a search of the area did not yield a suspect;
4:03 p.m.: suspicious activity, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street supermarket reports that a man in a bathroom stall may be “huffing” an aerosol can, the responding officer reports the caller said that when a store manager attempted to check on the man there was no verbal response but an aerosol can fell to the floor, the officer reports a criminal complaint was filed;
4:27 p.m.: assist resident, King Street, a wheelchair bound caller reports he is stuck on the ramp which allows him access to his home and requests assistance, the responding officer reports he helped the caller into his apartment;
5:23 p.m.: assist resident, Southampton Road, a caller from a Southampton Road motel requests assistance verifying a customer’s identity, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had been involved in an altercation with her husband and temporarily left her home, the officer noted that she had no shoes and the woman asked him to get a pair from her home, the officer reports the woman’s husband packed an overnight bag which was delivered to the woman;
6:31 p.m.: found property, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to surrender a wallet found in an Elm Street restaurant, the responding officer reports that the wallet appears to belong to a Russell resident he was not able to immediately contact, the wallet was stored for safekeeping;
9:10 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Franklin Street at Franklin Avenue, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without headlights and stopped the car, the officer reports he immediately noted an odor of marijuana when the window was opened and the operator surrendered a small amount of marijuana, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
9:13 p.m.: fire, Pontoosic Road, a caller reports his vehicle caught on fire, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the operator said that he smelled smoke while he was driving and heard a grinding noise before the car caught fire, the fire had been extinguished before firefighters or police arrived, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
10:26 p.m.: liquor law violation, Washington Street, a community policing officer reports that during a walk-through inspection of an apartment building officers encountered four men in a stairwell with what appeared to be cans of beer in their pockets, the CPO reports that two of the young men were found to be younger than the legal drinking age and city ordinance violation citations were issued;
11:07 p.m.: notification, Mechanic Street, officers visited an apartment and advised the tenant that, should officers later respond to the apartment for a noise complaint, a city ordinance violation citation or a criminal complaint would be filed, the tenant decided to terminate his party and disperse his guests;
11:09 p.m.: assist other agency, West Silver St., workers from the Department of Children and Families request assistance removing children from a home, the responding officer reports three young children were removed from a squalid environment and transported by Fire Department ambulance to Baystate Medical Center.
