6:37 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, City View Boulevard, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the officer reports the operator was provided a courtesy transport to a Berkshire Drive address;
9:17 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, municipal parking lot, Franklin Street, a parking enforcement officer reports he encountered a parked vehicle without registration plates, the responding officer reports that on July 10 the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked and the registration plates were seized then, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
10:55 a.m.: illegal dumping, Bartlett Street, a patrol officer reports refuse has been dumped into a charitable collection bin, the officer spoke with a person who said that the dumping was accidental and would not be repeated, the officer pointed out to the woman that if there is a second incident charges will be filed
11:58 a.m.: violation of an abuse prevention order, Granville Road, a resident came to the station to report that her estranged husband violated the ‘No contact’ clause of an active protective order by posting a message on a social networking website, the responding officer found that the message on the suspect’s page was clearly intended to be seen by the plaintiff of the order, a criminal complaint was filed;
12:01 p.m.: larceny, Grant Street, a resident came to the station to complain that her vehicle was broken into, the responding officer reports the woman said that her locked vehicle was entered and an inexpensive pair of sunglasses was stolen, the officer reports no obvious point of entry was found;
12:22 p.m.: assault, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to report she was assaulted Saturday evening, the responding officer reports that on Saturday evening three unknown Hispanic women assaulted her on Elm Street for no known reason, the woman said that she had gone to hospital for treatment of an injury to her foot, the officer was unable to contact persons the complainant said had witnessed the assault;
12:32 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked for lack of insurance and the operator’s license had been suspended, a criminal complaint was filed and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:02 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, an employee of a Springfield Road department store reports a woman who attempted to leave with merchandise was detained in the store, the responding officer reports the employee said that the woman had been seen concealing home furnishing items which were recovered, during the booking process the woman’s fingerprints revealed that she had provided both store employees and police with a false name, Erika Elaine Parent, 35, of 1806 Parker St., Springfield, was arrested for shoplifting merchandise valued more than $100 by asportation, trespass after notice, furnishing a false name when arrested and on a warrant issued in 2013 by Springfield District Court;
3:28 p.m.: fire, Ponders Hollow Road, a caller reports seeing smoke apparently coming from the area of the tin bridge, the responding fire captain reports smoke was seen in the distance and requested the department’s brush truck, an attended burn pile of construction debris covering about 100 square feet piled 3 feet high was found and extinguished;
6:40 p.m.: disturbance, First Street, a caller reports that her boyfriend has been beating on her all day, the responding officer reports the caller was crying and obviously upset when she said that her long-term live-in boyfriend had assaulted her during an argument, the officer noted a red mark on the woman, William J. Sullivan Jr., 64, of 36 First St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
8:00 p.m.: fire, Alice Burke Way, a caller reports a car is filled with smoke, the responding firefighters report flames were seen on the driver’s seat and the car was filled with smoke, the fire was extinguished and the car was found to be equipped with a heated seat, the owner told the firefighters that recently the seat has seemed to be hot even thought the seat warmer was turned off;
8:31 p.m.: warrant execution, Gold St., detective report that a warrant was executed, see story in the Friday edition of The Westfield News,
9:03 p.m.: assist resident, Devon Terrace, a caller requests assistance gaining entry to his home, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
9:12 p.m.: larceny, Forest Avenue, a caller reports that two boys stole her son’s bike from her yard, the responding officer reports that the woman said the woman said that one boy was on a bike when they arrived and her 5-year-old son described them, the caller’s husband returned and said that he had seen the two boys with his son’s bike riding on Clay Hill while returning home and said that he had reversed direction to follow them but lost them after they turned on to Notre Dame Street, a search of the area did not reveal the bike or the boys.
