Tuesday, June 12, 2012
9:35 a.m.: breaking and entering, Westwood Drive, a caller reports her unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen;
9:36 a.m.: breaking and entering, Woodland Road, a caller reports her vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen;
10:51 a.m.: lost property, Stanley Park, 400 Western Ave., a caller reports a pedestal-base traffic control sign is missing from the park, the caller does not require a report but wants the loss noted in case the sign is found;
11:07 a.m.: breaking and entering, Westwood Drive, a caller reports his unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen;
11:11 a.m.: breaking and entering, East Main Street, a resident came to the station to report that his vehicle was broken into in an East Main Street parking lot, the responding officer reports the victim said that he parked his car about 9:30 a.m. and returned to it about an hour later to find it had been broken into, the man said that a window may have been slightly open, the victim said that a backpack containing clothing and his medications was stolen as was a multi-function power tool valued at about $200;
11:20 a.m.: breaking and entering, Coolidge Avenue, a caller reports her vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen;
1:23 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield Middle School South, 30 W. Silver St., a school resource officer reports an administrator advised him that a sixth grade pupil had been discovered to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, the SRO reports he was told that an administrator had found a small amount of marijuana wrapped in a piece of cigar in an outside pocket of a boys’ backpack, the boy said that he had been holding the contraband for another boy but the second boy denied knowledge of the marijuana, the SRO reports a city ordinance violation citation was filed and the boy will face administrative sanctions;
1:57 p.m.: identity fraud, Danek Drive, a resident came to the station to report that her son has used her social security number to open a telecommunications account, the responding officer reports that she was contacted by a collection agency in reference to an account with her social security number at her son’s address, the woman said that she is not on speaking terms with her son and who has previously been the defendant of a protective order she secured, the woman said that the man has previously used her name and social security number to open other accounts, the woman was advised of her civil options and case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the detective bureau;
4:52 p.m.: larceny, Big Y Supermarket, 475 E. Main Street, a caller reports a review of security video has revealed a known person shoplifting, the responding officer reports the caller said that a known person is seen on video stealing baby formula on two occasions prior to a third time when he was arrested and served with a “no trespassing” order, the caller said that the man has also been seen on video entering the store two additional times and once is seen stealing again, criminal complaints for three counts of shoplifting and two counts of trespass were filed;
6:26 p.m.: suspicious activity, Chapman Playground, St. Paul Street, a caller reports two youths hanging out in the park may be involved in amorous activity, the responding officer reports the caller pointed out the youths, the officer reports the youths denied “making out” and were advised to leave the park which is under construction;
6:57 p.m.: breaking and entering, Highland Avenue, a caller reports a known person broke into his home, the responding officer reports the caller said that he observed a relative heading toward his home after a discussion regarding an item of jewelry she wanted, the man said that the woman was denied entry but when he returned home he found his window had been opened and his computer was missing, the officer spoke with the woman who said she took the computer to get back at him about the jewelry, the woman returned the computer and the complainant declined to pursue criminal charges;
7:34 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, motor vehicle violation, Pleasant Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed;
7:45 p.m.: breaking and entering, Western Avenue, a caller reports her vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen;

2:45 a.m.: assist other department, Shaker Road at Laro Road, Southwick police report that a man who had reportedly been knocking on doors in their town was found across the line in Westfield and is highly intoxicated, the responding officer reports the known person was obviously highly intoxicated and nobody could be identified who would care for him, the man was placed in protective custody;
10:27 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard, the officer reports the operator was provided a courtesy transport to the Southwick line where Southwick police provided her a transport to her home in their town;
11:46 a.m.: fire, CVS, East Main Street, a caller reports smoke is coming from the store’s back room, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the store was evacuated and smoke was found but no flames, a ceiling mounted exhaust fan was found to be smoking and was disconnected, the store was allowed to reopen;
12:25 p.m.: vandalism, Norton Street, a caller reports a vehicle has been vandalized, the responding officer reports the caller said that her son’s vehicle was damaged overnight when a passenger side rear window was shattered while it was parked on the street;
1:47 p.m.: found property, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he found an abandoned mountain bike, the officer reports he was told the bicycle has been in place since Monday and was transported to the station for safe keeping;
3:35 p.m.: animal complaint, City View Road, a caller reports a brown pit bull dog is on her property, the responding officer reports the caller took custody of the dog, an animal control officer was notified.
