Thursday, June 6, 2013
6:59 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
8:05 a.m.: accident, Gold Street at East Silver Street, a caller reports she saw a child on a bicycle get struck by a motor vehicle and continue to school, the school resource officer was notified and reports that the boy was found in the nurse’s office and he was transported by his mother to Noble Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the officer spoke with the motor vehicle operator who said that she didn’t see the boy riding on the sidewalk because she was looking for traffic in the roadway as she entered East Silver Street from Gold Street;
8:24 a.m.: fraud, Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver Street, a patient reports that her credit card was used without authorization, the responding officer reports the woman said that she allowed a friend to use her card for a specific purpose and he also used it to take out additional money which she believes he cannot and will not repay, the officer reports he was not able to immediately contact the suspect;
8:50 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southampton Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and non-renewable, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
9:29 a.m.: found property, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he was advised of a large knife in the roadway believed to be a traffic hazard, the knife was transported to the station for safe keeping;
10:49 a.m.: well being check, Southampton Road, a school resource officer reports a pupil advised him that her mother was driving her brother around while under the influence of marijuana, the girl said that her mother has a “smoking porch” where she smokes marijuana, the responding officer reports he found the girl’s mother smoking a cigarette on a porch and observed a glass marijuana pipe on the floor which he confiscated, the woman’s son was found inside the house and he said that he had not gone to school because he was sick and had a doctor’s appointment, the officer reports the woman said that she uses marijuana for a medical condition but the officer told her that he believed her to be under the influence of something in addition to marijuana, the officer reports he confiscated numerous items of drug paraphernalia despite the woman’s objections and told her that she could not drive her son to his appointment in Northampton in her current condition;
10:54 a.m.: accident, Dartmouth Street at Notre Dame Street, a caller reports a crash involving a motorcycle, the responding officer reports the motorcycle operator lost consciousness and said he doesn’t remember what happened, the operator of the car involved said that she was entering Notre Dame Street from Dartmouth Street and didn’t see the motorcycle until she pulled in the intersection and it struck her car, the motorcyclist was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated and released, the motorcycle was transported to the police impound yard;
2:52 p.m.: assault, Whitney Playground, a person came to the station to report she was assaulted two days earlier, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had gone into the woods to sleep with a male party she knows only by his first name and during the night the man assaulted her with a baseball bat, a baseball and insects;
3:36 p.m.: larceny, Boys and Girls Club, South Broad Street, a resident and her daughter came to the station to report her daughter’s medical equipment was stolen while she was at the Boys and Girls Club,the responding officer reports the girl said that she was at the club between 5:30-6 p.m. on Tuesday and her insulin pump valued at more than $4,000 was stolen;
5:49 p.m.: arrest, North Elm Street, a detective reports he observed a person in a North Elm Street bar he believed to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, two warrants were confirmed, Steven P. Bilodeau, 43, of 28 Federal St., Agawam, was arrested on the warrants from 2011 and 2012;
6:19 p.m.: vandalism, The Willows Apartments, 19 Lockhouse Road, a caller reports her vehicle was damaged at her apartment complex and a neighbor’s vehicle was also damaged, the responding officer reports the caller’s car was intentionally scratched and words were painted on the other car, the officer reports the paint was washed off the second vehicle;
6:47 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Fowler Street, a community policing officer reports he observed a mattress on a tree belt and spoke with property owner who said that tenants had discarded the mattress and he will remove it promptly;
9:55 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard.

9:18 a.m.: found property, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., an officer reports a driver’s license was found but the owner was not located, the license was held at the station for safe keeping;
10:09 a.m.: found property, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., an officer reports a set of keys was found, the keys were held at the station for safe keeping;
2:48 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union St., a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
4:29 p.m.: disturbance, Samaritan Inn, 7 Free St., a caller reports an intoxicated man who has created disturbances on the past three nights has returned and left after creating some issues, the caller said that the man is nearby yelling obscenities at passers by, the responding officer reports the man found was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for himself and he was placed in protective custody;
10:10 p.m.: arrest, Main Street, a detective reports he executed a warrant, Beverly A. Tomasini, 45, of 5 Noble Ave., was arrested on the warrant;
10:50 p.m.: traffic complaint, a caller reports a stop sign is missing at the intersection of North and Russellville roads, the responding officer reports the sign was found in the area, the DPW was notified;

8:37 a.m.: larceny, Clifton Street, a caller reports the theft of ladders from his business, the responding officer the caller said that ladders and aluminum platforms along with pump jacks were stolen from a storage area he rents on Clifton Street;
10:06 a.m.: well-being check, Summit Lock Road, a caller from Springfield reports receiving a ransom demand for her son who she believes to be working in the city, the responding officer reports he spoke with caller’s son who said that he was fine and Springfield police were en route to assist his mother;
11:50 a.m.: assault, Phelps Ave., a resident came to the station to report he was assaulted at a party the night before, the responding officer reports that the complainant offered tentative identification of a suspect but the incident remains under investigation;
12:17 p.m.: larceny, Steiger Drive, a resident came to the station to report a larceny from her home, the responding officer reports the woman said that although there are no signs of forcible entry two silver flatware sets valued at several thousand dollars were stolen, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
2:20 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a supervisory officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:46 p.m.: found property, Carpenter Street, a caller reports her son found a cap gun which looks like a real gun while walking on the dike, the woman said she thought the cap gun should be surrendered to police, the responding officer reports the cap gun was accepted;
4:28 p.m.: assist citizen, a caller requests assistance recovering property which was in the possession of a female party, the responding officer reports he spoke with the woman who agreed to leave the man’s possession outside the apartment, the caller called police again to report that his possessions were not left outside, the responding officer reports the man’s belongings were found in a common hallway and he took possession of them;
7:01 p.m.: animal complaint, Patriots Drive, a caller reports a neighbor’s dog has broken through a window screen and is running loose, the responding officer reports he found the dog in the roadway and found it to be friendly and approachable, the officer reports that, with the assistance of a neighbor, he was able to return the dog to the residence via the window with the damaged screen and was able to close the window;
7:55 p.m.: breaking and entering, Montgomery Road, a caller reports that he returned to his home after a brief absence and found that it had been broken into, the responding officer reports that cash and jewelry valued at several thousand dollars was found to have been stolen;
8:12 p.m.: animal complaint, Shaker Road, multiple callers reports a large bear in the neighborhood, the responding officer reports that apparently a mother bear and her cubs have been seen in the area and the residents were advised to leave her alone and she will eventually go back to the woods;
11:49 p.m.: incapacitated person, Chapman Playground, St. Paul Street, a caller reports an incapacitated person in the playground, the responding officer reports the man was obviously intoxicated and nobody could be found to care for him, the man was placed in protective custody.
