12:19 a.m.: animal complaint, George Street, a caller reports a dog has been barking outside for the last hour and may be in distress, the responding officer reports he received no answer at the door which appeared to be the dog’s home so he left the dog inside the secure common entry area;
10:38 a.m.: parking violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a vehicle parked in an handicap space without a handicap placard, a parking citation was issued;
11:50 a.m.: officer wanted, East Main Street, a detective reports that New Bedford police are requesting assistnce with a ransom situation, the responding officer reports he spoke with a resident at an East Main Street bank who was on the phone with putative kidnappers who claimed to be holding the man’s brother for ransom, the officers were able to determine that the alleged victim was safe and at work and advised the man attempting to get a bank loan to pay the ransom that an unverified claim to be holding a loved one for ransom is a common scam;
1:30 p.m.: animal complaint, Falcon Drive, an animal control officer reports she took custody of a stray cat and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
2:35 p.m.: larceny, Main Line Drive, a Florence resident came to the station to report that her purse was stolen at her workplace, the responding officer reports that the woman’s purse was recovered and his investigation is ongoing;
5:24 p.m.: animal complaint, Jesse Lane, a caller reports an opossum on her woodpile is not behaving normally, the responding officer reports the animal was obviously sick and behaving abnormally, the animal was dispatched;
5:29 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be revoked for lack of insurance, a criminal complaint was filed, the registration plates were seized and the car was towed to the police impound yard;
6:52 p.m.: suspicious person, Elm Street, a caller reports a man who may be intoxicated is stumbling in the street, the responding officer reports the man said that he was “smashed” and the officer was unable to find anyone who would care for him, the man was placed in protective custody;
8:09 p.m.: fraud, Brentwood Drive, a caller reports a family member stole and forged one of her checks, the responding officer reports he identified a suspect believed to have forged and uttered a check, a criminal complaint is pending.
