Emergency response and crime report

5:54 a.m.: evacuation, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road fitness center reports a customer pointed out an odor of natural gas in the gym, the caller was advised the evacuate the building, the G&E was notified and responded, the responding firefighters report no evidence of natural gas was found;
8:29 a.m.: school investigation, Westfield Middle School South, a school resource officer reports that an assistant principal advised him that a pupil had been found to be in possession of a BB pistol, the SRO reports that the boy has a history of bringing lighters to school so his backpack is checked routinely, two lighters were found addition to the pistol which the boy said he had forgotten was in his backpack, the SRO reports the boy’s father said that he supervises his son’s use of the pistol, the gun was stored as evidence and a criminal complaint was filed;
9:34 a.m.: assault and battery, Westfield High School, 177 Montgomery Road, a school resource officer reports he learned of friction between two freshman boys and found that one believed the other had directed a racial slur toward him in a hallway, the SRO reports that the two boys were later involved in a fight after they exited a class they have in common, the SRO reports the teacher identified the aggressor, a criminal complaint was filed;
10:49 a.m.: breaking and entering, Main Street, a caller reports his wife’s car was broken into in a Main Street parking lot, the responding officer reports he was told that the unlocked car was entered and $2-3 in coin was stolen;
12:59 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller reports a larceny from a thrift store, the responding officer reports the caller said security video shows that a couple entered the store and while the woman spoke with a clerk the man reached over the counter and stole an electronic book reader priced at $120;
4:03 p.m.: larceny, Crescent Circle, a resident came to the station to complain that the front registration plate was stolen from his vehicle, the responding officer reports the screws which had secured the plate are also missing indicating that the plate was intentionally removed;
8:24 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to complain of a larceny, the responding officer reports the complainant said that said that jewelry was stolen from her home overnight, there were no signs of forcible entry;
10:06 p.m.: incapacitated person, King Street at Grand Street, multiple callers report a man is on the ground moaning, the responding officer reports the man was transported to Noble Hospital and, after treatment, was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for himself, the man was placed in protective custody.
