1:26 a.m.: vandalism, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a man attempt to damage a store’s sign, the officer report the man was stopped before he actually damaged the sign and two friends accepted custody of him;
1:36 a.m.: suspicious persons, Church Street, a patrol officer reports he observed three college-aged men and saw one attempt to overturn a cast iron trash barrel, the officer reports he investigated to find trash barrels had been knocked over on Church Street and the three young men were required to return to upright the barrels and pick up the trash;
8:38 p.m.: suspicious person, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a man “dumpster diving” behind an East Main Street store, the officer reports the man said that he was looking for scrap metal and was told such activity is not tolerated, the man agreed to desist;
11:30 a.m.: animal complaint, State Street, a resident brought a deceased white and buff colored neutered male domestic short haired cat reportedly found on State Street to the municipal animal shelter;
1:59 p.m.: found property, Meadow Street, a resident came to the station to surrender two sets of car keys reportedly found on Meadow Street, the responding officer reports the owner of the keys could not immediately be determined and the keys were stored for safekeeping;
3:01 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
4:09 p.m.: animal complaint, East Bartlett Street, a code enforcement officer reports he assisted a city health inspector and an animal control officer with an inspection of a residence where endangered and protected turtles are reportedly being kept, the officer reports the resident acceded to an inspection request by the health inspector and numerous turtles and tortoises were found in the apartment, the officer reports the resident said that he works with a turtle rescue group but said that he has not registered as a tax exempt organization because he receives less than $400 in contributions annually, the inspector documented the number and species of the turtles and tortoises found and reports the investigation is incomplete;
6:39 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a caller from an Elm Street convenience store reports a man went behind the counter to steal a carton of cigarettes, the responding officer reports the clerk said that while he was outside a man was seen behind the counter and when he checked he found a carton of cigarettes missing, an assistant manger came to the store and accessed security video which showed a recognized man behind the counter, the manager said that if the merchandise was returned she would consider not pursuing criminal charges, a caller subsequently reported the suspect was in another Elm Street store and the officer went there and spoke with the man who admitted stealing the cigarettes to repay a debt to a third party, that man was contacted and said that he had already sold the cigarettes, the man was able to make restitution for the cigarettes and was served with a ‘No trespassing’ order.
