6:24 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, a supervisory officer reports a traffic stop, the operator’s license was found to have been revoked as a habitual traffic offender, Melvin J. Snide, 53, of 11 Oak St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender;
8:43 a.m.: assist other agency, Noble Hospital, Court Street, a caller from Westfield District Court requests that an officer attempt to serve a warrant of apprehension at the hospital’s emergency department, the responding officer reports the subject of the warrant was delivered to the court;
12:24 p.m.: fraud, Llewellyn Drive, a resident came to the station to report that she has become aware of a cable television account which was opened with her personal information without her knowledge, the responding officer reports that the woman said that she found that bills have been sent to her at her father’s address regarding an account she had not been aware of, the service was found to have been provided at her mother’s address and the woman noted that her mother had inquired about her social security number, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the Detective Bureau;
12:51 p.m.: disturbance, Noble Hospital, a caller reports her aunt assaulted her in the hospital parking lot, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had been asked to bring her mother’s purse to her hospitalized mother but when she arrived at the hospital her aunt demanded the purse and an altercation ensued in which her aunt struck her legs with the car door, the woman said that she does not wish to pursue criminal charges but wants the incident documented, the officer spoke with the other woman who explained that her sister had not wanted to see the calling party and had asked her to get the purse from her but when she told her niece that the woman became upset and a disturbance resulted, the officer advised each party that she could seek a criminal complaint at Westfield District Court if she chose to;
4:31 p.m.: extortion, Lozier Avenue, a woman came to the station and left a note reporting that she was going to send $1,000 to a person who had called her and threatened to kill her brother, a detective was able to contact the woman after she had sent a Western Union money transfer and convinced her to call her brother who said that he was fine and in no danger, the detective was able to help the woman cancel the money transfer and the woman subsequently recovered her money;
4:57 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to be operated by a woman whose license is suspended, a criminal complaint was filed, the vehicle was towed and the owner arrived at the scene to take the operator and her two children home;
8:03 p.m.: burning complaint, Margerie Street, a caller reports that smoke from a neighbor’s fire is filling her house, the responding firefighters report the resident extinguished the fire;
10:56 p.m.: traffic complaint, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a person riding an unregistered moped on Main Street, the officer gave the operator a verbal warning and allowed him to push the moped back to his home.
