12:20 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store reports a shoplifter is under surveillance, the responding officer reports the store employee said that a man had been seen removing merchandise from its packaging and concealing it on his person, the man was accosted in the store and surrendered merchandise, Mario Robert Fusco, 26, of 13 Plantation Drive, was arrested for shoplifting by concealing merchandise;
12:32 a.m.: disturbance, East Bartlett Street, a caller reports a vehicle operated by an intoxicated driver pulled into her driveway, the responding officer reports the operator was obviously too intoxicated to care for herself and was placed in protective custody, the woman was released to the custody of her adult son, see 4:35 a.m. entry;
3:48 a.m.: disturbance, Pochassic Road, a caller reports a physical altercation with his girlfriend, the responding officer reports the man said that an argument had developed while they were enjoying intimate relations and the woman slapped his face, the officer noted no signs of injury, the man asked the officer how he could get emergency protective order but said he did not wish to pursue criminal charges, the man became upset when he was advised that he was not eligible for an emergency order, the officer reports he went to the woman’s home but found no response at her door;
4:35 a.m.: disturbance, East Bartlett Street, a caller reports that she heard screaming and looked out to see a male party attempting to pull a female party through the window of a pickup truck, the woman told the responding officer that after she called 911 she looked again and saw that the man had entered the cab of the truck and was in the act of striking the woman, the officer reports that a woman he encountered upon arrival had visible and bloody facial injuries and was attempting to walk away, an ambulance was summoned and the officer went to the male party’s address where he spoke through the door with the man who refused to allow him entry, the man said that the woman had taken and driven his truck while intoxicated, the man was uncooperative and confrontational, Donald G. Cornelius, 56, of 21 E. Bartlett St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
5:03 a.m.: accident, Russell Road, a caller reports a car has struck a tree and is smoking, State Police were also notified as it was not clear in which community the crash occurred, the operator was transported to Baystate Medical Center and the officer asked the dispatcher to advise the operator’s wife that the dog which had been in the front seat had perished in the crash;
5:30 a.m.: incapacitated person, Southampton Road, a caller reports a person carrying a beer bottle is walking in the roadway, the responding officer reports the man said that he had been drinking in Holyoke and was walking to his home in Springfield, the man was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for himself and was placed in protective custody;
9:38 a.m.: public service, Main Street, a community policing officer reports that, with the assistance of a volunteer, he painted over graffiti at downtown sites;
10:45 a.m.: vandalism, Wyben Road, a caller reports her mailbox was vandalized overnight, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the damage documented;
11:42 a.m.: animal complaint, Pinewood Lane at Pochassic Road, a supervisory officer reports he was advised of a dog tangled in undergrowth, the responding officer reports the dog was freed and returned to its owner who transported it to a local veterinary hospital for treatment of injuries;
3:30 p.m.: officer wanted, Chapman Playground, St. Paul Street, a caller reports two men on the dike behind the playground are drinking beer in view of children in the playground, the responding officer reports he advised the men to find a less contentious place to drink;
4:12 p.m.: incapacitated person, Orange Street, an officer reports he was flagged down by a person who reported a man was passed out on a porch, the officer reports he found a male party who was obviously too intoxicated to care for himself, the man was placed in protective custody;
7:08 p.m.: officer wanted, Union Avenue, a caller reports an intoxicated person is attempting to operate a motor vehicle, the responding officer reports he provided the man a courtesy transport to a Crown Street address.
