1:06 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southampton Road, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have registration revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
6:36 a.m.: disturbance, Southwick Road, a caller reports a relative’s girlfriend is intoxicated and creating a disturbance, the responding officer reports the female party was clearly intoxicated and nobody could be found to care for her, the woman was placed in protective custody;
8:12 a.m.: school investigation, Westfield High School, 177 Montgomery Road, a school resource officer reports that a gym teacher advised him that two boys had been fighting in the locker room, the SRO reports the fight was a result of ongoing issues involving the boys and their siblings, the SRO reports that both boys were suspended from school for short periods;
11:08 a.m.: larceny, East Silver Street, a caller reports a past larceny at an East Silver Street supermarket, the responding officer reports a store employee advised him that a review of the store’s security video showed a larceny of baby food but the suspect was not immediately identified;
11:38 a.m.: suspicious person, Meadow Street, a caller reports a suspicious male party is in the neighborhood and may be soliciting, the responding officer reports he found a male party who is part of a sales team working for an out-of-state company, the officer reports he was able to speak with the man’s supervisor in Florida and explained the necessary procedures for door-to-door selling in the city and the supervisor agreed to suspend his company’s activities in the city until a license is secured;
1:19 p.m.: suspicious person, Crown Street, a caller reports a male party who appears to be going door-to-door was asking questions and may be trying to sell something, the responding officer reports he discovered a group selling magazine subscriptions, a routine check revealed one of the group was the subject of outstanding warrants, Daren Usher, 44, of 7522 Wiles Road, Coral Springs, Fla., was arrested on the two warrants;
1:28 p.m.: fire, North Elm Street, a caller reports a small brush fire, the responding firefighters report ornamental grass in a small traffic island in a parking lot was found to be burning and was extinguished;
3:33 p.m.: larceny, Grandmothers Garden, Smith Avenue, a caller reports children with buckets have taken frogs and tadpoles from a pond in violation of posted signs, the responding officer reports he located the children and spoke with their mother who assured him that she would supervise the return of the amphibians to the pond;
3:44 p.m.: illegal dumping, Hampton Avenue, a caller reports illegal dumping, the responding officer reports the caller showed him an old door and several tires which had been dumped on the property, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the dumping documented;
5:21 p.m.: illegal dumping, Edgewood Street, a caller reports she observed a pickup truck with a load of tires in the area and suspects illegal dumping may be planned, the responding officer reports he found some old mattresses and tires in the area and spoke with the caller who described the pickup truck which was seen to enter the area loaded and leave empty;
6:31 p.m.: suspicious person, Overlook Drive, a caller reports two men are soliciting money for a drug abuse program, the responding officer reports he identified the two men who were advised of the requirements to solicit in the city and to cease their activities until there are in compliance;
7:00 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Western Avenue, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the vehicle was towed;
8:40 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer requests a tow truck for a motorcycle found to have expired registration, the motorcycle was transported to the police impound yard.
