3:29 a.m.: found property, Springfield Police Department, a Springfield officer called to report that a handgun reported stolen in Westfield earlier in the year has been recovered in their city;
6:35 a.m.: arrest, Orange Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a known person believed to be the subject of an outstanding warrant traveling as a passenger in a motor vehicle, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
7:34 a.m.: assist resident, Montgomery Road, a caller reports her child is refusing to go to school, the responding officers report that after speaking with the child he agreed to go to school, the officers escorted the father and the boy to the school where the school resource officer took charge of him;
9:22 a.m.: vandalism, Park Square Town Houses, 140 Union St., a caller reports three of her tires have been slashed, the responding officer reports the caller said that her car’s tires had been intact at 8p.m. but three were found to be flat at 8:30 a.m., the victim told the officer that she suspects a former boyfriend is responsible but there is currently no evidence linking him to the crime;
10:37 a.m.: school investigation, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave., a school resource officer reports a female student invited two male schoolmates to her home knowing that the two boys wanted to fight each other, the SRO advised the girl’s mother about the situation who asked the officer to tell the two boys they are not welcome at her home and to tell her daughter what he had told the boys;
10:44 a.m.: animal complaint, Whitney Field, Shepard Street, a caller reports there is a sick animal at the ball field, the responding director of animal control operations reports she took custody of the groundhog and will attempt to get it to a wildlife rehabilitator;
11:38 a.m.: threatening phone calls, Southampton Road, the manager of a Southampton Road motel reports an employee is getting threatening text messages from the son of a recently discharged employee who blames the victim for his mother’s termination, the responding officer reports he spoke with both the former employee and her son and explained that the victim was not responsible for the termination, the son was also advised of the possibility of criminal charges if the texts continue, the man agreed to stop sending text messages to the woman;
11:55 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Franklin Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and non-renewable, the van was towed to the police impound yard;
4:06 p.m.: accident, Pequot Point Road, a caller reports he struck a utility pole, the responding officer reports no injuries were reported but the pole fell, the officer reports that the pole was unused and rotted at its base;
4:44 p.m.: animal complaint, Toledo Avenue, the director of animal control operations reports she took custody of an injured rabbit and will deliver it to an animal rehabilitator;
5:11 p.m.: burglary, Old Stage Road, a caller reports he returned home to find it had been broken into and property had been stolen, the responding officer reports that the caller showed him pry marks on the kitchen door, the caller said that two laptop computers, five watches and jewelry had been stolen, the officer reports a neighbor described a vehicle which had been seen at the victim’s house;
5:43 p.m.: vandalism, Casimir Street, a caller reports she thinks someone put sugar water in her car’s fuel tank, the responding officer reports the caller said that when she started her car it kept stalling and she found a sticky substance on her car near her gas tank cap, a responding detective lifted a finger print from the area, the investigation remains open;
10:58 p.m.: liquor law violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports a liquor law violation, the officer reports he discovered that the male party had four cans of beer and a city ordinance violation citation was issued for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor, other officers provided two female parties a courtesy transport to the Westfield State University campus;
11:26 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer requests a tow truck for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the officer reports the operator was able to renew his vehicle’s registration online and paid the tow operator.
