Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012
1:41 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Parkside Avenue at George Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Main Street and used radar to establish it was traveling at 48 mph in a 35 mph zone, the officer reports he stopped the vehicle on Parkside Avenue and saw the female passenger change seats with the male operator, the officer reports when the male party opened the passenger door he saw a glass containing what was found to be an alcoholic beverage, Randal J. Yarmesky, 35, of 42 Arnold St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as an habitual traffic offender and for possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle;
3:51 a.m.: disturbance, Crown Street, a resident came to the station to report her daughter pushed and kicked her, the responding officer reports the woman explained that her daughter was staying at a friend’s house when she made a prank call and the woman went to get her daughter, the woman said that an argument ensued and the 16-year-old girl kicked her and refused to come home with her, the officer reports that there was no answer at the door when he went to speak with the girl, a criminal complaint for assault and battery in a domestic relationship was filed;
8:04 a.m.; fire, Birch Road, a caller reports a resident regularly burns debris and is currently burning leaves, the responding firefighters report the fire was a remnant of a fire the day before and was thoroughly extinguished by the resident;
8:40 a.m.: a Southampton resident called again to report that his neighbor is taunting him and putting more wood on his fire, the firefighters responded again and report the resident was extinguishing the fire, the responding police officer reports that the fire captain said that he had no complaints about how the resident was dealing with the fire, the officer reports the caller became irrational when advised of the fire captain’s opinion;
10:53 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a Traffic Bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the vehicle was towed;
11:18 a.m.: vandalism, Granville Road, a resident came to the station to report his vehicle was vandalized, the responding officer reports the complainant said that the quarter panel of his vehicle was scratched overnight while it was parked on his property;
11:27 a.m.: animal complaint, King Street, a caller reports taking custody of a stray dog, a responding animal control officer reports she transported the dog to the municipal animal shelter;
1:33 p.m.: vandalism, Granville Road, a resident reported via the on-line incident report form that BBs or pellets fired at his garage punctured the door, the skin of a vehicle and a taillight;
2:46 p.m.: fire, Franklin Avenue, a caller reports a burning pile of brush, the respond firefighters report a resident was found to be burning in a fire pit and extinguished his fire when advised of the complaint;
3:09 p.m.: found property, East Main Street, a resident came to the station to surrender rosary beads found in the St. Mary’s parking lot, the item was held for safe keeping;
5:22 p.m.; assist citizen, Union Street, a resident came to the station to surrender property she believes may have been stolen, the responding officer reports the resident said that after her boyfriend was arrested she discovered silver and other property she believes may have been stolen, the property was preserved as evidence and the matter was referee to the Detective Bureau;
6:40 p.m.: fire, Western Avenue, a caller reports a bonfire, the responding firefighters report a resident extinguished a contained fire when advised of the complaint;
6:55 p.m.: fire, Shaker Road, a caller reports a fire in the woods, the responding firefighters reports a fire found on the side of the road covering about 100 square feet had been largely extinguished by the caller and firefighters ensured that it was thoroughly doused;
7:19 p.m.: suspicious activity, Great River Bridge south bound, a caller reports seeing youth throw a bottle bomb on to the bridge, see story in the Tuesday edition of The Westfield News;
7:38 p.m.: fire, Evergreen Drive, a caller reports neighbors have a very large fire and are burning tires, the responding firefighters report the remains of several tires could be seen in the fire which the resident extinguished upon request, the resident was advised that burning tires can result in a fine;
9:03 p.m.: fire, East Mountain Road, a caller reports a chimney fire, the responding firefighters report a fire was found in an elbow of a wood burning stove chimney and was extinguished, the resident was advised to have the system cleaned before using it again;
9:23 p.m.: bomb, Orange Street, officers investigating an earlier bottle bomb found an additional bomb on Orange Street, see story in the Tuesday edition of The Westfield News;

Monday, Nov. 19, 2012
12:32 a.m.: fire, Novel Street, a caller reports flames in a neighbor’s basement, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
8:32 a.m.: larceny, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave, a school resource officer reports a contractor reports that a table saw valued at $200 was stolen from the school over the weekend;
8:51 a.m.: larceny, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave, a school resource officer reports he was advised that a set of video tapes valued at about $200 was stolen from a teacher’s desk in mid October, the SRO reports the victim in not available for interview because he is out of the city;
9:37 a.m.: illegal trash disposal, Southampton Road, a caller reports that someone again dumped trash behind a restaurant’s rubbish receptacle, the responding officer reports the district manager of a restaurant chain said that about a pickup-truck-load of garbage was found to have been dumped behind the receptacle, the man said that a similar previous incident was not reported to police;
12:21 p.m.: larceny, Union Street, a caller report the theft of about 50 pallets, the responding officer reports the caller said that about 70 pallets valued at about $4 each were stored behind the building near less valuable pallets which were not disturbed, the caller said that security video showed persons loading the pallets on to a pickup truck about 5 p.m. Sunday, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
1:09 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Main Street at Free Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a male party cross the street by weaving through traffic although a marked crosswalk was located within 25 feet, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
3:50 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a caller reports an envelope containing personal papers was stolen, the responding officer reports the woman said that she believes she inadvertently left a large envelope full of personal documents on the counter of a city department and when she returned for it she found it gone;
5:30 p.m.: found property, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a stuffed Spiderman chair was found in the middle of the road on Clay Hill, the chair was transported to the station for safe keeping;
6:43 p.m.: accident, Southampton Road, a caller reports a vehicle struck a tree, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the southbound vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree causing the operator to be trapped in the vehicle, the responding firefighters report the man was extricated and transported to Noble Hospital, the man was treated and released;
10:01 p.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a caller reports she was assaulted by a neighbor, the responding officer reports the woman appeared to be highly intoxicated and said that her boyfriend bent her fingers backward, the officer reports the man in question said that the woman became enraged when he asked her to leave and had injured her fingers on the door as he was encouraging her to leave, the woman was deemed to be to intoxicated to care for herself and was unable to find anybody to care for her, the woman was placed in protective custody;
10:43 p.m.: larceny, Llewellyn Drive, a caller reports jewelry was stolen from his home, the responding officer reports a friend of a friend who had visited his home previously had repeatedly used his bathroom, when the resident learned that the man had been arrested in another jurisdiction he checked his home and found jewelry to be missing, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau.
