Monday, Nov. 26, 2012
11:07 a.m.: fire, Smith Avenue, a caller reports a burning complaint, the responding officer reports that considerable smoke was showing but no flames were visible in a pile of substantial logs, although a shovel and water were nearby the fire was unattended and the firefighters had to seek out a resident who insisted that the fire was the remains of a recreational fire the night before, the fire was extinguished;
11:40 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Mountain Road at Holyoke Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:15 p.m.: assist other fire department, Hillcrest Avenue, West Springfield, West Springfield firefighters request mutual aid with a brush fire on Hillcrest Avenue, the Westfield brush truck was dispatched and assisted the West Side firefighters;
1:19 p.m.: breaking and entering, a Whitman resident came to the station to report that his vehicle was broken into, the responding officer reports the man said that he parked his car in a municipal parking lot about 8 p.m. and about 6:30 a.m. returned to find a window had been broken and his wallet had been stolen from the car;
1:41 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:11 p.m.; found property, Holland Avenue, a resident came to the station to surrender a set of keys found on Holland Avenue;
3:53 p.m.: vandalism, Arch Road, a caller from an Arch Road business reports vandalism, the responding officer reports that the caller said that the property had been intact about 4 p.m. but at 6:30 a.m. he found that five sidewalk lights valued at $100 each and two rods set to define the sidewalk for snow removal were broken, the sign for the business had been knocked over;
4:01 p.m.: vandalism, Dudley Avenue, a resident came to the station to report that kerosene was poured into the her vehicle’s fuel tank, the responding officer reports that the caller said that the engine of her car was not operating properly and a service technician informed her that her fuel had been contaminated with kerosene;
5:59 p.m.: breaking and entering, South Street, a caller reports she returned to her home to find the door ajar and damaged so she went to a neighbor’s house to call police, the responding officer reports that the caller said that her jewelry box was rifled and two necklaces were stolen, other items of obvious value were not disturbed;
6:42 p.m.: assist other police department, Crane Avenue, Southwick police report an officer has pursued into the city a vehicle which failed to stop for an officer in their town, a Westfield officer reports that the suspect is in the custody of Southwick police and requests a tow, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012
2:50 a.m.: suspicious person, Southampton Road, a patrol officer reports a check of a Southampton Road store revealed a man sleeping in a shed, a check showed that the man to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Wayne C. McDonald, 36, of 3178 Main St., Becket, was arrested on the warrant;
6:50 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Meadow Street and used radar to determine it was traveling at 42 mph in a 30 mph zone, the vehicle was stopped and the operator said his license was suspended, the man’s license status was confirmed, Luis Angle Valdes, 25, of 120 Norfolk St., Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for speeding in violation of special regulations;
10:17 a.m.; motor vehicle violation, Union Avenue at Union Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light, the vehicle was stopped and the officer reports that the operator said that he could not immediately find his license and continued to search for it, a check of the man’s information offered verbally revealed that the man’s license had been suspended, Steven Loman, 21, of 93 Malden St., Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and for a red light violation;
12:07 p.m.: identity fraud, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to report his identity has been fraudulently used, the responding officer reports the man said that he was advised by Social Security officials to report to police that his social security number has been assumed by a person working in Tennessee;
1:09 p.m.: larceny, Meadow Street, a resident came to the station to report the theft of her medication, the responding officer reports the woman said that she is homeless and lives in a tent in the Meadow Street area, the woman said that recently her medications and a jacket were stolen from her tent;
4:13 p.m.: assist citizen, Mechanic Street, a caller reports she has locked her keys inside her vehicle, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
8:14 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard.
