12:14 a.m.: liquor law violation, Thomas Street, community policing officers reports they observed four young men who did not appear to have reached legal drinking age and two were observed to have cans of beer in their back pockets, the officers report they returned and one young man was asked what was causing the bulge in his clothing, the youth showed the officers a soda bottle filled with a dark fluid, when asked the young man said that the bottle contained soda and a mixture of liquor that he was carrying for his girlfriend, another of the young men was found to be holding an unopened can of beer, Luke J. Smith, 20, of 2 Grace Terrace, Medway, and Albert H. Clarke IV, 20, of 19 Marial Drive, Dartmouth, were each arrested for being persons younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor;
12:21 a.m.: accident, Bates Road, a caller reports a car crashed into a utility pole, the responding officer reports he found that a vehicle had struck and cracked a utility pole before continuing to strike a tree and coming to rest, the pole was leaning, witnesses said that the vehicle had been speeding before the crash, the operator was not injured and told the officer he was intoxicated before he failed a field sobriety test, David L. Mosher, 50, of 131 Main St., Russell, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and a marked lanes violation;
1:27 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southwick Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle fail to slow or stop for a ‘Stop’ sign and stopped the vehicle, the officer reports the operator said that he did not have a license, a check revealed that the man’s license had been suspended and that he was the subject of two outstanding warrants, an inventory of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana in the center console, Heitor Jair Cuevas, 26, of 75 Vadnais St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (a subsequent offense), possession of marijuana, a stop sign violation and on the two warrants;
9:07 a.m.: found property, Parker Avenue, a landlord came to the station with a laptop computer he said departing tenants had left behind and he believes may have been stolen, the responding detective reports his investigation is incomplete;
12:03 p.m.: attempted breaking and entering, Lewis Street, a caller reports a door has been damaged and said an attempt was made to break into his apartment, the responding officer reports the man said that he left about 7:30 a.m. and returned about 11 p.m. but did not notice the damage to the door until the next morning, no entry was gained;
1:13 p.m.: vandalism, Leonard Street, a caller reports two tires on his car were slashed, the responding officer reports the caller said that his vehicle was parked on the street about 10 a.m. and when he returned a few hours later he found that both driver’s side tires had been slashed;
2:50 p.m.: found property, Kellogg Street, a caller reports she found a gun in the ceiling tiles of her cellar, the responding officer reports the caller said that she does not know who the .22 caliber rifle belongs to but she doesn’t want it, the officer reports he took the rifle for disposal;
6:26 p.m.: disturbance, Pequot Point Road, caller reports a disturbance with his father, the responding officer report the caller said that an argument with his father degenerated into a scuffle and when his mother attempted to intervene his father pushed her and left the residence, the officer reports the suspect was found nearby, William L. McLain, 47 of 55 Pequot Point Road, was arrested for two charges of assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
7:02 p.m.: officer wanted, East Bartlett Street, a caller reports turpentine was poured all over her back porch, the responding officer reports paint thinner could be smelled on the back porch, the caller was advised to call police if she saw any suspicious persons;
9:30 p.m.: breaking and entering, Bartlett Street, a caller reports two vehicles were broken into;
10:21 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating with an expired registration sticker, the vehicle was stopped, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the operator’s license was found to be suspended, R. Scott Pierce, 30, of 25 Collins St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for operating an unregistered motor vehicle;

Sunday, Oct. 4. 2012;
12:02 a.m.: suspicious activity, Elm Street, a community policing officer reports suspicious activity, the CP officer reports a city ordinance violation citation for possession of marijuana was issued;
12:14 a.m.: liquor law violation, Orange St., a community policing officer reports a liquor law violation;
1:12 a.m.; motor vehicle violation, Church Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle strike another as it was driven from a municipal parking lot and the operator did not stop to leave any information, the vehicle was stopped on Church Street and the officer immediately detected an odor of alcohol, the man denied drinking liquor but failed a field sobriety test, Kyle R. Betters, 21, of 115 Spadina Parkway, Pittsfield, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and for negligent operation of a motor vehicle;
1:42 a.m.: disturbance, a caller reports a college aged party with excessive noise, the responding officer reports a tenant eventually answered the door and said that the residents were just returning from the bars, the officer noted that there have been two previous similar complaints at the address, a criminal complaint for disturbing the peace was filed;
1:58 a.m.: abandoned 911 call, Edgewood Townhouses, 134 Union St., a dispatcher reports an open-line 911 call, the responding officer reports a resident said that an intoxicated guest is no longer welcome, the officer reports the man could not find alternative lodging of the night, the man was placed in protective custody;
9:48 a.m.: suspicious activity, Mechanic Street, a caller reports a naked young boy was seen running toward a church, a second caller reports that they found a naked 8-9 year-old boy in the lower church who has been covered and is in the custody of a few adults, the boy’s mother called and said that her son had jumped from a bathroom window, the woman was advised of her son’s location and went to the church, both mother and son were provided a courtesy transport to their Mechanic Street home;
11:23 a.m.: fire, Canal Drive, a caller reports neighbors have an outdoor fire, the responding firefighters report residents were found to be burning leaves, the fire was extinguished;
11:36 a.m.: larceny, Noble Hospital emergency department, Court Street, a resident came to the station to report a necklace was stolen, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he inadvertently left his necklace in the emergency room while he was being treated and staff subsequently called to advise him that the necklace had been found, the man said that when he returned to reclaim his necklace it could not be found;
11:44 a.m.: animal complaint, Root Road, a caller reports a fox on the property is acting strangely and she is concerned it might be rabid, the responding officer reports the fox fled into the woods when he sounded an air horn;
2:44 p.m.: illegal dumping, Tin Bridge, South Broad Street, a caller reports a driver of a pickup truck dumped a load of leaves and clippings in the area of the bridge, the responding officer confirmed new debris, the officer could not immediately trace the vehicle as the registry site was not working;
4:53 p.m.: fire, Laura Drive, Westfield State University police report two high school aged youths have a bonfire in a wooded area, the responding firefighters report the two youths used shovels to extinguished the fire and they assisted using portable extinguishers;
5:52 p.m.: larceny, City View Boulevard, a caller reports redeemable cans were stolen form her porch, the responding officer reports the caller said that she saw a person fleeing with two large bags of cans and leave in a waiting vehicle;
6:56 p.m.: larceny, Warfield Drive, a caller reports her residence was entered and her medications were stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that she was away from her home for a brief errand and returned to find that her medications had been stolen from her kitchen, there were no signs of forcible entry;
8:16 p.m.: noise complaint, Lindbergh Boulevard, a caller complains of somebody using a leaf blower, the responding officer reports he found a resident who agreed to stop blowing leaves, a routine check revealed the man to be the subject to of an outstanding warrant, Timothy Stoops, 34, of 46 Lindbergh Boulevard, was arrested on the warrant;
9:13 p.m.: larceny, Stop & Shop, 57 Main St., a caller reports a shoplifter has been detained in the store, the responding officer reports merchandise valued at about $77 was recovered and the suspect was served a ‘No trespassing’ order.
