Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013
7:22 a.m.: found property, Jefferson Street, a caller reports a bicycle was left at his house, the responding officer reports the bike is in the back yard of a house with three apartments and he was unable to speak with the residents of the other two apartments, the officer reports the caller said that children live in one of the apartments, the officer reports the bike was left in place pending notification of the other tenants;
7:27 a.m.: found property, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, a patrol officer reports he located a bicycle at the school which he believes was reported stolen in July, the officer reports the bike was transported to the station for safekeeping until he can consult the appropriate school resource officer;
8:30 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports that a person came to the shelter to surrender a five-month-old black and white female American Staffordshire terrier she said she is allergic to;
10:38 a.m.: suspicious activity, Orange Street, a caller reports that a white van was seen at a vacant foreclosed property, the responding officer reports the caller showed him an open basement window and said that two men who arrived in a white van and entered via the window and stayed inside for about a half hour, the real estate agent handling the property was advised;
1:13 p.m.: suspicious person, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a patrol officer reports he observed a person looking into the personally-owned vehicles of police officers parked at the station and observed him attempt to open the door of one of the vehicles, the responding officer reports the man was identified and served with a ‘no trespassing’ order for police department property;
1:43 p.m.: larceny, West Silver Street, a resident came to the station to complain that her daughter’s iPod was stolen while she was at the Boys and Girls Club, the responding officer reports no suspect was identified;
2:07 p.m.: breaking and entering, Devon Terrace, a caller reports someone may have attempted to break into his home, the responding officer reports that a window was broken but no entry appeared to have been gained;
3:48 p.m.: larceny, Lincoln Street, a caller reports that her bicycle was stolen recently, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she does not know when her bike was stolen from the parking lot at her residence but believes it may have been taken Saturday;
5:12 p.m.: accident, Shaker Road, a caller reports a rear-end crash and both vehicles pulled into an adjacent parking lot, the responding officer reports the caller said that the other vehicle drove out of sight in the parking lot but the operator appeared to be intoxicated, the officer reports he found the second operator who was determined to be intoxicated, Mark R. Jachym, 43, of 128 North Westfield St., Feeding Hills, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and for following too closely;
6:19 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Avenue, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed from the scene;
8:00 p.m.: suspicious activity, Grandmothers Garden, Smith Avenue, a caller reports four persons are smoking marijuana in the gazebo at the park, the responding officer reports that although there was a strong odor of marijuana in the area none of the four persons found and identified were found to be in possession of any contraband, the persons were advised of the possible consequences of smoking marijuana and of trespassing in the park after it is closed for the night;

12:35 a.m.: found property, Elm Street, a North Attleborough resident came to the station to surrender a duct tape wallet found in an Elm Street alley, the responding officer reports he was unable to immediately contact the owner of the wallet and it will be held at the station for safe keeping;
9:20 a.m.: found property, Pineridge Drive at Troy Lane, a caller reports finding several needles in the area of the intersection, the responding officer reports the caller pointed out two hypodermic syringes on the corner which were collected for proper disposal;
12:50 p.m.: animal complaint, Apple Blossom Lane at Southwick Road, a caller reports a stray dog running loose near the roadway, the responding animal control officer reports she took custody of the dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
1:10 p.m.: found property, Union Avenue at Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports a found wallet was surrendered to him but he was unable to immediately contact the owner, the wallet was transported to the station for safekeeping;
2:08 p.m.: accident, Crown Street, an officer investigating a minor property damage crash reports that a routine check of the participants revealed that one was the subject of an outstanding warrant, Matthew L. Flynn, 26, of 53 Crown St., was arrested on the warrant;
4:45 p.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Middle School South, 30 W. Silver St., a caller requests assistance with a lockout from a car, the responding deputy fire chief reports entry was gained;
7:52 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller reports a customer left without paying for fuel valued at $38.01, the responding officer reports the clerk said that a customer proffered a credit card which was subsequently declined, the clerk said that the woman asked to use the bathroom and said that she would find alternate payment after she emerged and the clerk activated the pump, the clerk said that the woman did not make any payment arrangements and left, the officer reports he eventually was able to speak with the woman by phone who said that she was away from the city but would make payment when she returns next week, the officer reports that criminal charges will beheld in abeyance pending the woman’s return.
