Emergency Response and Crime Report

12:07 a.m.: larceny, Shepard Street, a caller reports his car was stolen from his driveway, the responding officer reports the owner said that he locked the car when he parked it about 8:30 p.m. and has the keys;
12:35 a.m.: assist citizen, Pumpkin Lane, a caller reports a disturbance, the responding officer reports a resident had become locked out of her home and had been banging on the door in an attempt to awaken her husband, entry was made;
1:19 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle which failed to stop for a red light, the vehicle was stopped and the operator appeared to be intoxicated, the man failed a field sobriety test, David E. Jackman, 43, of 264 Huntington Road, Chester, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor (a second offense), possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and a red light violation;
1:41 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Road at Sander Road, a patrol officer reports that when he checked the Hampton Ponds Plaza he saw a vehicle leave with a defective tail light, the vehicle was stopped and the operator was found to be a 15-year-old girl who initially claimed to be in her 30s, the juvenile was arrested for being delinquent by reason of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, being a motor vehicle operator who refuses to identify herself and a miscellaneous motor vehicle equipment violation;
4:22 a.m.: assist citizen, Monroe Street, a resident came to the station to complain that a dinner guest the night before drugged him a and stole property, the responding officer reports the man said that he had a beer with dinner and believes his female guest put a blue pill in it which caused him to sleep, the man said he woke up hours later to find his wallet, cell phone and $80 missing and believes his guest stole the property;
8:22 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the operator said that he did not have his license with him but the officer found it had been suspended, a criminal complaint was filed;
9:55 a.m.: fire, Springfield Road, a caller reports a car at a Springfield Road dealership is on fire, the responding firefighters report the vehicle was fully involved with flames coming from the engine compartment, the fire was extinguished and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
10:03 a.m.: breaking and entering, Williams Way, reports her unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen, the responding officer report the woman said that her GPS device and credit cards were stolen and her credit cards were used in Westfield and Chicopee;
11:28 a.m.: Larceny, Madison Street, a resident came to the station to complain that his front registration plate was stolen, the responding officer reports the man said that he parked his car in his driveway about 8:30 p.m. and in the morning the plate was found to be missing;
11:54 a.m.: assist citizen, Fair Lane, a caller reports she is locked out of her home, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
12:16 p.m.: burning complaint, Grant Street, a patrol officer reports seeing smoke, the responding firefighters report a homeowner was burning brush and agreed to extinguish the fire;
2:45 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, a person came to the shelter to surrender a female American Staffordshire terrier puppy;
4:29 p.m.: assist other police department, North Road, Holyoke police reports a North Road traffic stop, the responding officer reports that Holyoke police received a report of an erratic operator and followed it into Westfield to stop it, the Holyoke officers report the operator denied that he was intoxicated but a heroin packet was seen in plain view, the man was found to be in possession of two bundles of heroin packets and two hypodermic syringes, Dean G. Drumm, 40, of 381 Main St., Hinsdale, was arrested for possession of a Class A drug;
4:48 p.m.: accident, East Main Street, an officer responding to a property damage accident reports that one of the operators was found to be intoxicated and he observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, William E. Thompson, 38, of 65 Glenwood Drive, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor (a second offense), possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speeding and a marked lanes violation, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
4:55 p.m.: recreational vehicle complaint, Skipper Lane, an off duty officer reports he heard off road vehicles approaching on Skipper Lane which he knows has been plagued by similar instances of ATVs operating on the roadway toward a nearby liquor store, the officer reports he displayed his badge as he stood in the middle of the road to stop the vehicles, the officer reports one of the operators was not wearing a helmet and he immediately recognized the man who did not stop but accelerated toward him forcing him to take evasive action, the officer reports followed them to the liquor store where he saw the man he recognized on his ATV in the parking lot and the man circled the lot forcing pedestrians to flee as he searched for an exit, the officer reports the man drove his machine across school athletic fields which were in use, the officer and a responding officer went to the suspect’s home where they found the man who displayed the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication and had a partially full bottle of liquor protruding from a pocket, the man declined to take a field sobriety test because he said he had not been driving a car, Michael R. James, 45, of 11 First Ave., was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor (a fourth offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and an equipment violation;
5:54 p.m.: officer wanted, Pearl Street, a caller reports her juvenile son who assaulted her previously has returned, the responding officer reports that police had been called to the address three times previously for domestic disturbances and the boy was found to be the defendant of a protective order, in the first two calls the boy was found to have been involved in verbal disputes and his mother agreed that he could calm down without police action but the third time said that he had thrown a broken door at her and fled, the boy was found and arrested for being delinquent by reason of assault with a dangerous weapon, violation of an abuse prevention order and assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
6:36 p.m.: officer wanted, Crawford Drive, a caller reports he was attacked by a male bicyclist when he pointed out that the man’s shoelaces were not tied, the responding officer reports that the caller said that the man stopped and grabbed him by the throat while threatening him and then abandoned his bike and fled on foot when the victim broke free and called police, the man returned a short time later and but the victim declined to pursue criminal charges;
7:57 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Bullens Field, King Street Extension, a detail officer working at a football game where signage advises spectators that their possessions are subject to search reports he observed a youth riding a bike in violation of local rules and searched his backpack to find pipes contaminated by marijuana residue, the boy’s parents were advised and a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
9:05 p.m. : city ordinance violation, Bullens Field, King Street Extension, a detail officer working at a football game reports he observed a female party holding a soda bottle and a cup who tried to hide the cup and then discarded the content s when she saw him, the officer noted that the residue in the cup smelled of alcohol and the color of the contents of the soda bottle did not match the label, the girl admitted that it contained liquor, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
11:41 p.m.: unwanted guest, Park Square Townhouses, 140 Union St., a caller reports that the subject of a restraining order is at her residence, the responding officer reports the suspect was not at the residence when he arrived but the woman subsequently came to the station to report the altercation, the woman was found to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Parise J. William, 26, of 140 Union St., was arrested on the warrant;
11:44 p.m.: Noble Hospital Emergency Department, Court Street, a caller reports a patient brought to the hospital by Westfield State University Police has been medically cleared but is creating a disturbance, the man was found to be too intoxicated to care for himself but nobody could be found to care for him, the man was placed in protective custody.
