4:00 a.m.: suspicious person, Franklin Street ,a caller reports male party ran past his house yelling, the responding officer reports he found a male party who was obviously highly intoxicated and was banging on the door of a resident who said she did not know him, the young man was placed in protective custody;
7:38 a.m.: fire, Wendy’s, 6 Southampton Road, a caller reports the restaurant is filling with smoke, the responding fire captain reports a rooftop heating unit caught fire and sent smoke into the restaurant below, the fire was extinguished and the building was checked by the city health inspector who allowed the restaurant to open for business once the smoke was removed;
7:55 a.m.: accident, Broad Street, a caller reports a crash near Park Square, the responding officer reports he found that one of the involved operators said that he had been stopped for a pedestrian when his vehicle was struck in the rear, the second operator said that the sun had been in her eyes and she didn’t see the first vehicle was stopped, the officer reports the woman appeared to be disoriented and confused and she was transported to Noble Hospital where a spokesperson said she was treated and transferred;
8:24 a.m.: larceny, Court Street, a caller reports a decorative lighthouse was stolen from his yard, the responding officer reports the resident said that one of three lighthouses which decorate his property was stolen from the front of his house, the man noted that a decorative windmill in his yard was also stolen recently but was discovered when it was abandoned by the college aged youths who were carrying it when they were challenged by a resident;
1:07 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store reports a shoplifter was seen filling a shopping cart with merchandise and was detained when he attempted to leave the store without making payment, merchandise valued at $266.84 was recovered, David M. Riopelle, 45, of 184 Bradford St., Pittsfield, was arrested for shoplifting by asportation and a ‘No trespassing’ order was issued;
1:43 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a traffic enforcement officer reports a traffic stop, the operator’s license was found to have been suspended, a criminal complaint was filed and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:22 p.m.: assist citizen, Main Street, a caller from a liquor store reports a customer is too intoxicated to drive, the responding officer reports the man was provided a courtesy transport to a Danek Drive address where an adult assumed custody of him;
2:59 p.m.: parking violation, Butler Street, a letter received in the mail complained of a camper which is parked with the front wheels on the sidewalk blocking passage for pedestrians, the responding officer reports a citation was issued;
3:05 p.m.: found property, Heritage Lane, a resident came to the station to surrender several rounds of small caliber ammunition;
3:40 p.m.: found property, Smith Avenue, a caller reports a bicycle has been left on his property, the responding officer report the bike was transported to the station for safe keeping;
5:57 p.m.: trespassing, Fort Meadow School, 35 White St., a caller reports that the gates of the school’s playground have been locked on the orders of the mayor but there are a few youths in the play area, the responding officer reports he found six youths sitting on the play construction who were advised the complaint and left without incident, no damage was observed;
6:20 p.m.: suspicious activity, Lincoln Street, a call reports a college aged male party was shooting a gun, the responding officer reports the caller said that he heard a gunshot and saw a male party holding a gun, the officer spoke with a man at the indicated residence who showed him a pellet gun and said that when he held it he was pointing it at the ground, the man acknowledged firing one pellet, the man was advised to shoot the gun in a more appropriate venue;
7:44 p.m.: larceny, Mechanic Street, a Burlington resident came to the station to complain that his unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen, the responding officer reports that the man said that he parked the vehicle on the street the night before and when he returned to it in the morning he found that his cellphone and $50 in cash had been stolen;
8:32 p.m.: alarm, Pineridge Lane, an alarm company reports a garage alarm activation, the responding officer reports a visitor said that he went outside to his vehicle and inadvertently locked himself out of the residence, the man said that the resident did not hear him knocking, the officer reports he was able to get the resident’s attention and she opened the door for her guest.
