Polls open today for State Primary Election

WESTFIELD/SOUTHWICK – The State Primary Elections are Sept. 1, with polls open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. in Westfield and Southwick.

Southwick voters will head to Southwick Town Hall for all precincts, while Westfield residents will vote in various locations based on wards. Ward 2 residents will vote at Westfield Middle School instead of the Senior Center, and all others will vote in their usual locations.

Voters will choose a Democratic or Republican ballot and cast their vote for several local races. In addition to the senator in congress, representative in congress and senator in general court, which are voted on by both Southwick and Westfield residents, voters will select their candidates in local state representative races.

STATE REP. NICHOLAS BOLDYGA

DINO R. MERCADANTE

In Southwick, Republican incumbent Nicholas Boldyga is facing Agawam City Councilor Dino Mercadante for the state representative seat. The winner in the primary will face the sole Democratic candidate, Agawam School Committee member Kerri O’Connor.

Westfield Republicans Dan Allie, a city councilor, and Kelly Pease, former aide to state Sen. Donald F. Humason Jr., will face-off in the primary and move on to the general election where Independent candidate Ethan Flaherty and Democrat Matthew Garlo are also vying for the seat.

While not facing opposition in the primary, state Sen. John C. Velis, a Westfield Democrat, will face challenger John F. Cain, a Southwick Republican, in the Nov. 3 election.
