LONGMEADOW – Westfield Post 124 set off some early fireworks, exploding for eight runs in the sixth inning to rally past Longmeadow 11-4 in an American Legion baseball game Saturday.
It was the continuation of a previous rain-delay game.
Sam Blake and Chris Riga spearheaded the big sixth, each delivering two-run base hits. Matt Irzyk also went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI for Westfield, Rob Sullivan went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and Kyle Murphy finished 2-for-4 with three runs.
Kenny McClean provided four shutout innings of relief for Post 124. Liam Flaherty delivered 2 2-3 innings on the mound, and teammate Jake Toomey recorded the final out.
Westfield improved to 8-2.
