Cloutier sparks North Majors

SOUTHAMPTON – The Westfield North Major All Stars began its summer baseball campaign in strong order this past Saturday morning, defeating Southampton 11-1 in just five innings.
Spencer Cloutier pitched the North squad through all five innings, allowing only one run while striking out 11 of the 18 batters he face. He did not allow a walk.
Westfield’s offense drummed up eight hits and displayed great patience at the plate by drawing eight walks.
The attack was led by Cloutier who had 3 hits, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. The shot of the day belonged to left-handed hitter Mike Nihill, who drove a 2-run home run deep over the left center field fence.
Other significant contributors included Carter Cousins, who got on base four times and scored three times from the lead-off spot in the batting order, and Jimmy Hagan, who collected a pair of sharp singles and scored twice while playing solid from the shortstop position.
The North 12’s continue its march through District 2 with a key game against Agawam this coming Friday at the Paper Mill Field in Westfield at 6 p.m.
In other games, Westfield South blasted Gateway, 18-0 in a combined no-hitter from two of the team’s pitchers. No other information was available as of press time.
