Pre-qualifiers in for school project

SUPERINTENDENT DR. JOHN BARRY

SOUTHWICK – The school project is moving forward as the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District (STGRSD) gets ready to go out to bid.
Business Manager Steve Presnal told the school committee last night that pre-qualifying Statement of Qualifications have come in, with just two areas falling short.
“Two categories of subcontractors did not receive sufficient interest,” Presnal said.
The elevator and miscellaneous and decorative iron work categories did not receive the state ideal of three qualified statements.
“The state requires us to do a second round, and if we still don’t get more, we can go with what we have,” Presnal said.
The district is in the 60-percent design phase for the Woodland Elementary and Powder Mill, which will become a transitional school.
The elementary and transitional school project is set to go out to bid April 1, with a bid on the middle/high school planned for this summer.
“There won’t be any beginning construction at the high school this summer, but there will be at Powder Mill and Woodland,” Barry said earlier this year, adding that construction could start at the high school in the fall of 2013.
“We will start with the construction of the new square footage at the middle/high school,” he added.
To accommodate construction at Woodland, the preschool will temporarily move to Granville Village School for the 2013-2014 school year.
