Proposed marijuana facility holding community meeting

SOUTHWICK – A proposed boutique marijuana facility located at 74 College Highway is holding a community outreach meeting at Roma’s Restaurant on Wednesday November 7 at 6 p.m.

Calyx & Pistils Inc. is proposing to open up a small-scale marijuana business which will include the cultivation of both medical and recreational marijuana.

During an informal discussion with the Planning Board in September, Christopher Lalli and William Fontaine, owners of Calyx & Pistils Inc., informed the Planning Board that they’ll strictly be a wholesaler and have no intentions of retail. They also explained that they’re looking to build a 15,000 sq. ft. indoor metal facility. The building would include a full security system with cameras.

The meeting on Wednesday will allow Calyx & Pistils Inc. to give the public a better understanding of their proposed business and what they’re specifically looking to do. Lalli and Fontaine will also talk about their plans to divert minors from being a part of their business as well as their efforts to make a positive impact in the community.

“There’s mixed feelings about the (marijuana) industry out there,” said Lalli. “They get a chance to meet us as well.”

Due to the new cannabis laws in the state, it’s required for all proposed marijuana businesses to have a community outreach meeting and invite the public.

All abutters within 300 ft. of the 74 College Highway property have been notified and all residents or concerned persons are encouraged to attend the meeting

Currently, Calyx & Pistils Inc. is applying for a special permit with the Town of Southwick. If the special permit is approved, Lalli and Fontaine’s plan would be to break ground with the facility in the summer of 2019.
