Public hearing, firefighter interviews on Select Board agenda

SOUTHWICK – American Legion Post 338 is seeking an alteration to its license.
A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3 at 6:50 at Southwick Town Hall during the Select Board meeting.
Post 338 Commander Russ Pike applied for the alteration and is proposing a horseshoe pit and expanded serving area. The application calls for fencing around the serving area.
The building at 46 Powder Mill Road is described as a two-story structure with an upstairs room basement storage, bar, meeting room with four entrances and an outdoor pavilion. Pike applied to increase the outdoor serving area by 2,040 square-feet. The serving area would include a 10-by-20-foot woodshed for storage and an outside bar if needed.
The new serving area would be 57,764 square-feet with the horseshoe pit and bleachers.
Also on the Select Board agenda Tuesday are interviews for a new firefighter/EMT, with candidate Josh Girard scheduled for 6:05 p.m., followed by Clarke Robinson at 6:15 p.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Richard Stefanowicz said this is to fill one fulltime position open because of a resignation.
The agenda also includes an update from Department of Public Works Director Randy Brown, An invitation to the Southwick Fire Department’s 9/11 ceremony, a discussion of the Southwick Public Library Children’s librarian, a certificate of appreciation for retiring Police Sgt. Kirk Sanders and an update of the board’s goals and objectives, among other items.
The Select Board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
