WESTFIELD – The public is invited to a virtual community vIsioning workshop Oct. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. that will focus on setting educational and architectural priorities for the Franklin Avenue Elementary School project, presently in the feasibility study phase in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

The two-hour-long workshop will be run by New Vista Design and Caolo Bieniek Associates as a virtual collaborative session designed to update the community on visioning work that has been done thus far, as well as invite community members’ best thinking about their priorities, aspirations and concerns with regard to the design of the renovated and/or new Franklin Avenue Elementary School.

Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski said the school building committee has already had three workshops with input from parents and staff from both Franklin Avenue and Abner Gibbs elementary schools, members of the School Committee, and other district leaders.

“There are things we’ve already identified, such as 21st century teaching and learning practices and what we want students to learn in educational programming. We’re really focusing on the 21st century design patterns, and what we’re going to do with the space,” Czaporowski said.

He said on Thursday workshop leaders will run through a few activities to present the vision, strengths, challenges and opportunities, and their goals for the community. “This is the final message to the community as we move forward in the feasibility study,” Czaporowski said.

Czaporowski said that parents, staff members from both schools, members of the community, and any stakeholder that has anything to do with the schools, including businesses, are welcome to join the forum, which will be interactive, and people who phone into zoom may participate on the call.

“We want everyone’s opinion, as this really is a community project, so join us if you can,” Czaporowski said.
