In accordance with President Barack Obama’s proclamation, Governor Deval L. Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until sunset, Saturday, April 20, 2013 in honor of the victims of the acts of violence perpetrated in Boston on Monday, April 15, 2013. This order applies to: 1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls. 2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings. 3. All state military installations.

I was just wondering, can anybody tell me the protocol for flying the flag at half-mast? Because, America, we forgot it. That was for a veteran. I am a veteran and that was for us. And now we just seem to fly it half-mast anytime we want. So, another thing to forget about the veteran. For proper flag etiquette please visit: http://www.aflag.com/flag_etiquette.asp

Hey Folks, if you don’t like what the Mayor is doing, why don’t you attend one of his many, many town meetings and give him your input. The meetings are always announced by The Westfield News and the photos show very few people actually take the time and effort to attend. Stop your whining, it really doesn’t serve any useful purpose.

Today, Wednesday, April 17th, I was at the local Walmart store and was quite surprised at how many vehicles I had passed with dogs enclosed in them. The weather wasn’t overly warm while being outside, but when the bright sun shines into the car, the temperature rises quickly. I ‘d like to remind everybody of the dangers that heated cars can cause for pets. Try sitting in the car, in the sun, with just a cracked window, and see for yourself how it feels. Leave your pets at home. Thank you.

Hi! I sure am glad somebody else is running for mayor. He’s got my vote. And the good old boys in Southwick are at it again. That sounds like a strange way to get a new police chief. Shouldn’t there be some process to go along with that? Thank you.

U.S. government employees that voted against gun control laws: evidently you don’t care about our children or our lives here in America. If you read the laws that were enacted years ago and think about it, the gun law was put into effect for muskets. One shot. I suggest that we vote every Republican out of office that voted for it. Good day.

Good morning! I was calling concerning the streets of the city of Westfield. Here is the paving season in full swing. I was hoping that city officials would actually start paving some of the streets that are a disaster and I was hoping that they’d get some of these items out to bid and actually do their thing. They always seem to wait until late in the season. This is the prime paving time. It’s time for the councilmen to give their list to the proper people and see what streets are going to be paved. Please. I think we’re in a crisis mode in a lot of our streets. Have a pleasant day.

I observed that in this great city of ours, Westfield, there isn’t very much for children, teenagers, to do on this spring vacation.

Hi! Some may call it supply and demand. I call it greed. What am I talking about, you may ask? I’m talking about the gas prices. $3.30-something in Chicopee and $3.50-something in Westfield? Something’s wrong here. Good-bye!
