As a tax payer of Westfield I would like to know who is paying to repair all the storm sewers that were put in a few years ago on East Main Street, Did a contractor, hired by the City, put the sewers in or did the City do it? If the contractor put them in and did a shoddy job, they should pay to repair them, not the tax payers. We reached out to the City Engineering Dept. and they are not sure of the location you’re referring to. The work done in the recent past on Main St. did replace the drainage and was by a contractor for the MassDOT and they are unaware of defects with that work. There are a couple of sewer laterals that have been identified and looking to be repaired by means of opening the road that might suggest the contractor is at fault but their work is four years past and only had a warrantee for one. East Main Street is State Highway and the City had no involvement in its paving some five years ago and is not involved with any ongoing issues of drainage.
