Southwick selectmen and woman: instead of trying to figure a way to cover up the Whalley Park water problem, which somebody owes the town $70,000 for use of the water, it appears that you let the Southwick Rec Center, which has no affiliation with the town, off the hook… God only knows why…  Why don’t you do something great by updating the veteran’s memorial stone in the center of town? It hasn’t been updated for years.  Let’s do something good for a change.  And we are watching the situation in Whalley Park.  I sure don’t want to pay for it in my water bill.

Yes, what about a casino here in Westfield? What ever happened to that proposal? Would it economically help this city, if we have the casino here? The property owners could not come to terms with the operators.

This past week, the topic of conversation amongst family members was the City of Westfield’s budget. Imagine my surprise when one of my relatives mentioned that the contracts for city employees were on a website in Westfield! I was shocked to find out what was in these contracts, such as being paid for sick days when you retire. This amount can be up to the hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. These people also receive holiday pay before or after a holiday, clothing money, longevity pay… The list goes on and on. I have no problem with employees receiving decent wages, but most extra money given to these employees is excessive. No wonder this city is called Westfield, Taxachusetts.

I meant to send this in sooner, but I just want to thank the nice gentleman who went out of his way to return my son’s license and other important papers to us. People like him help make the world a better place. Thank you again, kind sir!

I’d like to thank Councilor Flaherty for posting those budget videos and spreadsheets on the cityofwestfield.com website. He clearly demonstrated the financial problems that are facing this city. Please take a few minutes to review these videos, and then write thank you letters to the 6 City Councilors who stood up for the taxpayers and voted against the Mayor’s budget.

So, another non-chain eatery is closed. The Runway is gone. What a shame. We would eat there every other Saturday usually with our son and daughter in law. Their rehearsal dinner was there. Wonderful food great service. It will truly be missed. So, the next time you go out to eat and go to a chain eatery remember you are not supporting a local owner. Yes, the staff is local but that’s all. You will all be missed.

One thing I can say, I remember the police chief of Holyoke, Chief Scott, and he said we’ve got to get tough on criminals and tough on judges. Well, here you go, Westfield Police Department cops doing a really great job, arresting this 18-year-old kid for taking a BB gun pistol and knocking out another kid’s teeth and robbing him. I read online he was charged with assault and a battery with a dangerous weapon and armed robbery. And funny thing is the courts let him out on his own recognizance. No bail. No nothing. Just let him out. That’s being tough on crime, Westfield! Great job! Not the police officers who are doing their job, the court system!
