To all joggers/runners: Can someone tell me why you run on the side of the road when there is a sidewalk to do this? Many times driving down Western Ave/Court St, I see people jogging on the side of the road when there is a perfecly good sidewalk. Please explain.
To the people renovating the former Romani’s bowling alley … Can you keep us posted on the progress of the remodeling? I am so excited that there will be a bowling alley in Westfield again, and want to know how soon it will be opened. Thank you.

I live at 16 Washington Street. We recently had a fire and people were just moving back in. I see one of the tenants on the first floor has his winter guest back.

I just want to say to the person who posted congratulating the softball team – it’s a beer-drinking softball league. C’mon. OK?

To people on the WIC program: it makes me crazy to see these people in the supermarket. The answer is very simple: do not have children you cannot afford and then expect other taxpayers to pay for them.

Residential areas are no place for chickens. It’s a shame when you buy a home and your children can’t play in their because of stupid thoughtless neighbors. Why are chickens in Eastwood Acres? There is no farm there.

I’ve just seen on TV where removing a veteran’s marker from a cemetery is a felony. How did the Diocese of Springfield manage to strip St. Mary’s cemetery of all of the veterans’ markers? It’s disgraceful and disgusting.

Have the people of Westfield lost their minds completely? Now a $5 million park in the gaslight district project? Give me a break. What we need is businesses here, not $5 million parks. As a lifelong resident, I say enough is enough.

I would like for the police assigned to the traffic division to go up over the new bridge and stand behind the North Elm Butcher Block there and watch that intersection where the cars merge and everything like that and you’ll see people switch from one lane to the other lane without even looking and they’re not supposed to. I almost got hit twice there already.

I called last week to see if anyone knew what was happening to The Proud Chef restaurant on the way to Southwick? Says it will be open on September 15th. The PulseLine caller said they would be open October 15th, not September. So, I drove down there for lunch and it’s now the 20th of October and they’re still not open. Can anyone tell me whats with these people? Thank you.

To the resident of Pearl Street on the Holland Avenue end: why on such a narrow street must you park side by side, left and right, so it’s difficult for traffic to get through there? The street is already narrow. I’ll tell you what – if a fire truck had to get down there somebody would lose a couple sides off their car. Wake up!

To the Southwick selectmen: get over it! She was elected. We want her to represent us. Get over it! Just because you agree with Mr. Romney that women belong in the kitchen and not in the workplace, we don’t agree with that in Southwick, Get over it! Let her do her job!

You know we got upcoming elections going on and I see question 2: assisted death. Well, they are telling you to vote no but I had a parent that went through cancer and the last couple months of her life was hell on her. It’s not murder. You put your dog to sleep when it gets sick. It would be less suffering on a person.

There seems to be a big dispute going on within the ranks of the Southwick selectmen’s office. I’m wondering if we have a couple of other residents of our town that next time around would be interested in becoming a selectperson representing the town of Southwick and our wishes. I know I won’t be voting for these two gentlemen next time around. Thank you, PulseLine.

Southwick residents: you’re on your own going through the construction areas on 10 and 202, better know as College Highway. I’m coming through town Monday. Here comes a fire truck and and ambulance, lights on and sirens a-blazin’. I pull over to the side. I look to my left and there’s a sheriff’s deputy, standing there. He’s supposed to be directing traffic and he’s talking on his cell phone. I guess that’s more important than our safety, or the safety of the fire department. My my my.

Reading the PulseLine the other day, I believe it was Wednesday, seems like somebody wrote in about the fuel shortage we’re having, whatever, and how come the jets are flying at Barnes Airport, more, the fighters. Well, this person has got to realize that these pilots have to be ready at all times and they have to get so many flying miles in. And certain missions they fly. So I think it should be the way it is and I hope they just keep on flying. Remember – they’re ours. Thank you.

Southwick: after following the articles in The Westfield News, and I’m sure there’s more to come, I guess the two selectMEN didn’t get the message when the town voted in a selectWOMAN to help straighten out the mess that they have made. I think it’s time they open their eyes and see that we do want changes. We don’t want the same old people in there. They haven’t done Southwick any good at all. They help each other out. That’s why the article the other day said they are good ol’ boys. Never heard that name before but it fits them.

I was reading Thursday’s paper, October 25th, and I really have to agree with the person who put an article in the PulseLine about the Drug Store Hill Bridge. When will it be started? You know, it’s really getting out of hand. Mayor Knapik: I think you better get going on that bridge. Traffic is so bad down at the bottom of the hill it is disgusting. You have money for everything – all these different things going in Westfield – why can’t you start the bridge? Get it done and over with! Pretty soon it will be winter and you won’t be able to do anything. Maybe we ought to picket over the bridge. Thank you.

A caller stated enough is enough about the Pochassic Street Bridge and I agree 100 percent but the powers that be in Westfield, or anything concerning Westfield, the powers move very, very slowly. I wonder ho many extra miles I have put on my vehicle because of this bridge delay. And how many extra dollars I have spent on gas? Speaking of gas, why are the prices of gas always higher in Westfield? Fifteen cents a gallon is a big difference. In Southwick, it was $3.64 and in Westfield anything from $3.69 to $3.79. Southwick, since I’m there anyways, you have my business. Thank you so much for taking my call to day.

On Saturday, October 20th, I attended the domestic violence awareness fundraiser at Amelia Park.  This was a joint event with the St. Mary High School Student Council and The Westifeld Police Domestic Violence Coordinator.  The group was there for over eight hours volunteering their Saturday with pumpkin and face-painting for all the children that visited.  The bake sale was a great success with the students, parents, and parish offering a variety of baked delights.  The wonderful response of all the businesses that donated gift certificates and monetary contributions were a testament to those that understood what domestic violence does to a family.  Now, here’s is my gripe.  This was an event involving the city of Westfield and not one elected official, such as city councilor, showed up to support a fellow employee.  Even the mayor was a a no-show. It must be that Channel 22 came before he could so there was no photo opportunity for him.  All that was needed for them to do was park their car, there were plenty of empty spaces, buy a dollar raffle ticket and pick up a variety of home-baked goods.  For only a donation and go back to your good life.  I am embarrassed as a resident of this city For over 60 years, how little attention was paid to a crime that affects everyone directly or indirectly.  Hats off to all that volunteered their time with smiling faces on a beautiful sunny day.  Good luck St. Mary Student Council and the Domestic Violence unit.  Your efforts will not go unnoticed by many who supported you.  Thank you.
