Please be advised that Governor Deval L. Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset today in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Tyrone A. Hines, of Boston who died September, 4, 2012.  This gubernatorial order applies to: 1.  The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls. 2.  Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings. 3.  All state military installations.

My sympathy goes out to the Avery Family on the tragic loss of their beloved Thomas. It sounds like, from the article I read, that Thomas was a truly special friend. The words that I have for this inhuman, evil, awful individual who committed this atrocity are not able to be printed here. What an evil act! How could someone do something like this to a poor, defenseless animal? Simply tragic for the family, and to think of that poor cat suffering is so heart-wrenching. I certainly hope this murderous deviant is found and incarcerated before he or she graduates to the next level and does the same thing to a person. Incidents such as these never cease to amaze me at how low humanity can go. Rest Well and Godspeed, dear Thomas.

The Westfield turnpike exit is a nightmare for Fast Lane tag holders. I’ve contacted Mass DOT several times to alert them to the extended delays when exiting the ramp but no one has responded. They did a great job with the West Springfield exit. Why can’t they fix this mess at Westfield? They really don’t care in Boston about our plight here. Pulseline, Is there any other remedy available for us to get this ridiculous situation resolved?

I’m wondering why Westfield High School has not posted the honor roll for the fourth quarter. They have been in school for the last two weeks and it hasn’t been posted yet. What about the faculty? Are they not doing their job to get the honor rolls into The Westfield News? These students achieved great honors and deserve to be in there like all the other schools. I think Westfield High School has to make a lot of improvements with their faculty and hopefully a new superintendent (or principal) will be established with the high school. Thank you.  The Westfield High School honor roll ran in the Saturday, Aug. 25 Westfield News and can be found in the Around Town section of our website.

On Wednesday afternoon I was waiting for the Soup Kitchen to open when this woman came out yelling at me that the benches weren’t to be used by the public. I’d like to know who I can contact to find out if they are for the public or owned by the Soup Kitchen. Thank you.

This is about the building collapsing. That should have been taken care of many, many years ago, like when Newberry’s was torn down or even when the fire happened on September 13, 1986. It’s sad that it happened and everything, but let this be a lesson. They shouldn’t have let it go so long; it should have been taken care of.
