SOUTHWICK – One in the books.
Southwick-Tolland wrote off Commerce with a quick stroke, dispatching the visiting Red Raiders 3-0 in a high school girls’ volleyball season opener Thursday.
Southwick won the first two games by the exact same score of 25-19, before finishing up with a 25-21 victory.
Jess Martin (20 assists, 14 aces), Millan Andreoli (4 kills), and Callie Flanders (5 kills) led the attack for Southwick (1-0).
“I liked the way we executed our fundamentals,” Southwick coach Kevin Pender said. “Once our communication was on, the rest of our game came together. I like how the girls responded when we were down.”
Commerce flirted with a lead at times, but the Rams squashed any Red Raiders’ comeback hopes.
“In order to win our league, we need to adapt to that style of play,” Pender said of the opposition. “We need to be ready for anything and everything so we can play our game.”
