Hello Westfield! Before I get into this week’s update, I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Harry Rock and the whole Westfield 350 volunteer team for their months and months of hard work. Last weekend’s celebration was by far one of the best Westfield has ever seen, and reminded me just how lucky I am to live in such a wonderful community – we are truly blessed.
On a more serious note, Memorial Day weekend is upon us. This National Day of Remembrance is the day that we, as a nation, must stop and think of the millions of men and woman who have given their lives to protect our country. For those of us who have served, it is a day to reflect on our experiences and remember those we served with who are no longer with us.
Memorial Day is, to me, the most sacred day of the year. Precious few men and women raise their hands to serve, and, thankfully, fewer still make the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation. From the beaches of Normandy to the jungles of Vietnam and across the deserts of the Middle East, every one of the servicemen and women we have lost gave their life to save ours. Although we may not have known them personally, it is still the duty of every American to honor and remember them.
As we enjoy our nice weather and cook-outs this weekend, I hope that the memory of those we have lost stays at the forefront of our minds. We must not take our small luxuries for granted and remind ourselves of the price others have paid for our freedoms. I urge you all to enjoy your day-off with those you love while still thinking of those Gold Star families who are missing their loved one. As we eat our hot dogs and apple pie, we must remember that it is only by their sacrifice that we can call ourselves just as American.
All gave some, some gave all. Live a life worthy of their sacrifice.
