Richard E. Young

SOUTHWICK – Richard E. Young, 82, a resident of Southwick since 1998, and former long time Springfield resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late Richard I. and Madeline E. (Smith) Young, Dick was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School.
He went on to serve in the United States Army as a Ranger in Korea. Dick worked as a machinist for many years, retiring as a supervisor at Precision Speed in South Windsor. He was a dedicated member of the Esoteric Sherwood Masonic Lodge in Feeding Hills, recipient of the Joseph Warren Medal in 1997, and a member of the Shriners Drum Corps. He was a member of the Westfield United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia (Menzel) Young; daughters, Debra Shaw and husband Harry of Somers, CT, Karen Reimers and husband Harry of Wilbraham, MA, and Elizabeth Scanlon and husband David of Broad Brook, CT; cherished grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Shaw, Jessica and Shannon Reimers, and Brandon Scanlon, and a sister, Barbara Dempsey of Agawam, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Donald and Robert.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28th, at 12:00 noon in the Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home, 684 College Highway, Southwick, MA. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mass. Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday, January 27th. .
