WESTFIELD – Maxime Richard and P.J. McCadden each scored a pair of goals for Westfield State as the Owls skated to a 6-1 win over Worcester State in a MASCAC ice hockey game at Amelia Park on Thursday night.
Richard got the Owls on the board first with just 1:02 left in the first period, skating in from the left side and dekeing Worcester State goaltender Salvatore Tecci to beat him to the far side.
Richard added a wrister 1:27 into the second period to give Westfield a 2-0 lead.
It was then McCadden’s turn to register back-to-back markers, tallying on a slapshot from between the circles off the rebound of a Frank Zuccaro shot, then adding a breakaway goal as Zuccaro headmanned the puck up the ice to McCadden at the Worcester blue line where he skated in 1-on-1 with the goalie and beat him to the right side with a nifty move.
Zuccaro tallied three assists on the night and Jackson Leef added a goal and two assists for the Owls, now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the MASCAC. Ian Perrier stopped 39 shots for Westfield.
Rich Ledy tallied the lone goal for Worcester with 3:55 left in the game to break up the shutout. Tecci made 22 saves and yielded four goals in 40 minutes of play. Drew Case stopped seven shots and allowed three goals in the third period for Worcester State, 2-6-2 and 1-3-1 in the MASCAC.
