WESTFIELD – A search for a person believed to be missing in the Westfield River was suspended at 9 p.m. Saturday when darkness fell but will resume Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
City police report that a person was reported to be missing in the river east of the Great River Bridge and city police and firefighters searched the river to no avail before calling for assistance from state troopers.
The State Police air wing was deployed and the troopers of the dive team responded to the area to search but nobody was found before dark, a city police spokesperson reports.
The officer said that the State Police will coordinate the search when it resumes Sunday morning.
