Robert Daniel Serre

WESTFIELD – Robert Daniel Serre (“Bob”, “Pops”, “Boo-Bob”), (1933-2024), beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024 at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA.

Bob was born on March 28th, 1933 in North Adams, MA to the late Leo J.B. and Regina E. (LaGrand) Serre. He graduated from Drury High School in 1951 and entered the Army in March 1952 to fight in the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in March, 1954. Bob relocated to the Springfield area in 1958 and settled in Westfield in 1964. On May 5th, 1984, Bob married Gail (Gosselin) and they were happily married for almost 40 years. He was a machinist by trade and worked at several machine shops in the area, working full-time until the age of 87 when the world shut down because of COVID. Bob was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Westfield. Bob loved spending time with his family, camping and traveling with Gail and their best friends, Walt and Anne Therrien. He also enjoyed fixing things, working in the yard and propagating plants until the pain in his hands was too great.

Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Gail, his loving children Christopher (Colleen), Ann-Marie (Darryl) and Scott (Alice) as well as his grandchildren, Samantha Liptak (Jake) and Nicholas, and his great-grandson, Jacob Liptak. He also leaves his sisters Jaqueline St. Pierre and Marguerite (Lavariere) Thornton, several nieces and nephews, as well as his best buddy, and constant companion, Raffle.

He was predeceased by a son, Kevin Daniel, his parents, his siblings Eugene, Nathalie and Tommy, and his best friend, Walter Therrien.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, with a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s in Westfield at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Veterans Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the Massachusetts Veterans Home at Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 10140 or St. Mary’s Parish School, 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
