Robert W. Porter

flagRobert W. Porter, 90, (1926-2016) passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton. He was born in Cummington, MA to the late Jesse and Myrle B. (Streeter) Porter and was a graduate of Westfield Trade School. Robert served his country with the United States Army from 1945-1946 during WWII. He attained the rank of Private First Class and received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Robert was employed as the head electrician for Mercy Hospital and retired in 1988. After retirement he would spend winters in New Port Richie, FL and was a member of the Western Mass Model T Club and the American Legion Post 0462 in Boston. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years in April 2015 Phyllis W. (Boisseau) Porter, a son Jeffery Porter and his brothers, Jesse “Raymond”, Garfield, William and Wilbur Porter and sisters, Barbara Robbins, Margaret Sears, Priscilla Lynds and Arlene Twiss. He is survived by his loving children, Gerald R. Porter and his wife Diane of Westfield, Lorrie A. (Porter) Motyka and her husband Jim Motyka of Hatfield, Edwin A. Porter of Hatfield, daughter-in-law Susan Porter of Las Vegas, NV, a brother Morris Porter, and eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Friday at 11:45 AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam.
