Ruth E. Weston

WESTFIELD – Ruth Eleanor (Batson) Weston of Westfield died Monday, October 15, 2012. Born in Lynn, MA on October 18, 1948, Ruth grew up in Georgetown, MA and was a 1966 graduate of Georgetown High School. Following her graduation from Bates College in 1970, she took a course in computer programming at Honeywell Computer School and began her IT career at Tufts NE Medical Center. Ruth and Peter were married in 1973 and settled in Westfield, at which time she began a rewarding career at MassMutual as a computer systems trainer, systems analyst, systems consultant and finally a quality assurance analyst until her recent retirement.
When her children were born Ruth took time off to be a full time mom. She enjoyed being an active mom, involved in her children’s activities, including Scouts, sports and dance. She served as a Red Cross volunteer in Westfield and as a substitute secondary math teacher at Westfield High School. Ruth was an avid Red Sox fan. She loved the ocean and beaches both in Florida and Maine. During and after college she enjoyed downhill skiing and hiking with her family. She enjoyed the outdoors and fly fishing in Vermont, fireworks on the 4th, visiting family in Florida, keeping in touch with friends and her hobbies, gardening and travel.
She leaves her beloved husband, Peter Weston and children, Mary E. Weston of Brookline, MA and Matthew D. Weston of Rocky Hill, CT and his girlfriend, Rachel Billstrom; her treasured sisters, Janet Lyons and husband Stephen of Wilmington, MA, Priscilla Wentworth and husband David of Searsport, ME; brother, David and wife Valerie of Corona, CA. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Marcia Haas and husband Richard of Agawam, MA and Audrey Weston and her husband Dennis Murphy of Fiskdale, MA; seven nieces and nephews; her aunt, Natalie Andresen of North Carolina; her cherished friend, Martha Talbot of Wilbraham, MA; her MassMutual friends and all her friends in the Georgetown, MA High School class of 1966.
The family extends their deep gratitude and thanks to the caring aides, nurses and doctors at UCONN Health Center-John Dempsey Hospital, Gaylord Hospital and Avon Health Center.
The funeral will be Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
