WESTFIELD – The Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old All-Stars have won the first two games of pool play in the state tournament by a combined 23-1 run-scoring differential, solidifying their mark as the top seed. Two more wins ensures a trip to Manchester, N.H., for the regionals, beginning July 26.
On Tuesday, Westfield will host Worcester-East Side in a semifinal at Bullens Field at 7 p.m. Pittsfield will take on Leominster in the ball park’s first game of the day at 4.
Westfield already owns a 6-1 win over Worcester-ES that it enjoyed on Sunday.
“They’re a scrappy team of good athletes who can run,” Westfield 13s coach John Bonini said. “We didn’t commit any errors but we played a little sluggish – the heat got to us. If we play solid defense (Tuesday) and swing the bats better, we will be OK.”
