Saints blank Pioneers

The St. Mary High School baseball team’s offense exploded on a rainy day in the city, and junior pitcher Noah Parker silenced Pathfinder as the Saints blanked the Pioneers 12-0 yesterday at Jachym Field.
Parker scattered four hits, struck out 16 batters, and walked none.
“I’m glad we got it in,” said St. Mary’s coach Troy Collins who spent two hours grooming the field to ensure the Saints could play the game. “We knocked another one off.”
St. Mary’s “Breast Cancer Awareness” game against Westfield Voc-Tech on Monday night was suspended after just a half-inning due to heavy rain. The Saints (12-6) and Tigers will resume play Thursday evening at Bullens Field at approximately 7, following Westfield-Agawam at 5.
It took St. Mary’s offense very little time to get back on track Tuesday. The Saints exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Lyndon Ondrick walked to lead off the second and scored on a bases-loaded walk. Joe Lubanski blasted a booming bases-clearing, 3-run triple, Parker and Matt Plasse collected run-scoring hits, and added an eighth run on a fielder’s choice.
Felix Chapdelaine’s hit a sac-fly for St. Mary’s in the third, and the Saints tacked on three more in the fifth as Pathfinder’s defense wilted.
